Brian Lopes Cockpit Setup Details

Pretty stoked when BikeCo Pro Rider Brian Lopes reads through our blog and takes some time to send notes!

Check out details on Brian’s bar width, layup, rise and stem below:

Width & Stiffness

Currently I run Renthal Fatbar Lite 35mm diameter bars, uncut at 760mm.

Last year I rode Fatbar Lite 31.8mm bars. These were 740mm wide, which was fine, but I wanted just a little more width.

I could have run the standard Fatbar for the added width, however it is a really stout bar. I didn’t feel I needed the extra strength, and a bit more weight that goes along with it, compared to the Lite options.

I’ve never had a single issue with Renthal Lite bars. These bars offer a bit more give & comfort for Enduro riding.

 Rise

Usually I run 30mm rise bars.  This means less spacers under my stem. This allows me to cut my steer tube a bit more, saving some weight and looking much cleaner.

On my dirt jump bike I run 40mm rise bars. Since the fork only has 100mm travel this helps me not be as hunched over.

For a more xc or light trail bike I might run a 20mm rise to get the bars a little lower for a better position while climbing.

Stem

Renthal Apex Stems are on all my bikes.

Length really depends on the frame Reach & Top Tube length.

On my medium Ibis Ripmo I run a 40mm stem. My medium HD4 has a 50mm stem.  I also have a large Mojo 3 and run a 40mm on that bike. Like I said really just depends on frame geometry.
