Geo Comparison Legend: Compare Ibis, Mondraker and Yeti bikes!

Use this legend to understand the dimensions you want to compare between bikes. This geo comparison page will show you class leaders from Ibis, Mondraker and Yeti across hardtail, cross country, trail, enduro and big mountain riding.

(A): Factory Sizing

What does the manufacturer publish? Usually a pretty big range. This is dependent on your arm / leg length versus your total height as well as your flexibility and how you prefer your bike to ride.

(B): Fork Travel

Pretty, clear cut right? Fork travel is measured along the stanchions, so the “actual” vertical travel is a factor of the headtube angle.

(C): Rear Travel

How much travel does the frame have? This is typically a vertical measurement of travel, which is why you’ll see a longer fork travel paired to it (since the fork travel is measured along the headtube angle).

(D): Headtube Angle

One of the more polarizing numbers in bike Geo. It’s a balancing act. Too steep for a riding style will make a bike nervous. Too slack for a riding style will make it sluggish. More aggressive and steeper trails lean towards slacker headtube angles.

(E): Trail

Measurement based on the fork offset, headtube angle and center of the hub. Most forks have similar offsets these days – but this was a big factor that led to shorter fork offset a few seasons ago.

(F): Reach & (G): Stack

Reach is sometimes over referenced – how “long” a bike is comparatively requires an understanding of the stack as well. If the stack is low then the reach will have to be “long” because as you increase the stack with handlebar rise or cockpit spacers or stem you’ll be coming “back” or shortening the actual “reach”.

(H): Top Tube Length

A measurement important for overall climbing fit. The older I’ve gotten the more I look at this number to decipher the pedaling position.

(I): Head Tube Length

Unless this number is WAY off from another bike it’s generally in a pretty acceptable range. If it was much shorter or longer than the average you’d expect to see you’d look at stack or reach to see if it’s been massaged to produce another dimension elsewhere. You won’t see that with Ibis, Mondraker or Yeti bikes frankly.

(J): Seat Tube Length

With so many dropper post options this number isn’t really too much of a fit concern at this point. Probably cockpit positioning, wheelbase and standover are going to help you more than this.

(K): Eff. Seat Tube Angle & (L): Saddle Height for Eff. Seat Tube Angle

Seat tube angles have been steeper over the past few seasons. This provides riders a more balanced front and rear feel when climbing. However, Effective Seat Tube Angle is calculated using the height of the saddle for the crossover to assign an upper point to the ray from the center of the bottom bracket. On bikes like Ibis, Mondraker and Yeti riders will find well thought out and tested riding positions. Beyond that it can be best not to worry too much about partial degrees here or there as it will depend on your leg length versus height what your effective seat tube angle is. And you can adjust the saddle for and aft on the rails during fit as well…

(M): Standover

Really not too much of a concern for most riders. If you have a very short inseam compared to your total height it can be more critical. Or if you’re “up-sizing” a bike. Again cockpit sizing and wheelbase for trail personality will be more important.

(N): Bottom Bracket Height & (O): BB Drop

Bottom Bracket Height is the unloaded height from the center of the bottom bracket (crank axle) to the ground. Drop is the measurement from the center of the wheel axle to center of the crank axle, also unloaded. These numbers can vary, or require both of them for an “ultra” precise measurements as tire size can slightly change the hub axle to ground dimension.

Riders who want a “little more” bottom bracket height will often explore 10-20mm more fork travel to slightly lift the front end and thus the bottom bracket.

(P): Chainstay Length

This is the dimension from the bottom bracket to the rear axle. It’s dependent on rear wheel size. It also effects how a bike rotates around its center and loads weight. Yeti has taken chainstay length to the next level with model and size specific dimensions.

(Q): Wheelbase

How long is your bike axle to axle? Longer bikes tend to have more speed capacity and slightly slower, or more relaxed (depending on your viewpoint), handling.

We suggest a tablet or larger screen platform (tablet, laptop, desktop). A phone in the “landscape” position may align the three columns. However it depends on a variety of settings to work well on a mobile device.

The drop-down menus can be used in any order. Using cascade logic the drop-downs will eliminate options based on another drop-down’s selection. ie, if you select the HD6 model it will only show sizes available for the Ibis HD6. If you select Ibis eMTB it will only show the Oso in the model tab and available sizes in the size tab.

On the model drop-down we added some details to more easily compare similar bikes from Ibis, Mondraker and Yeti.

We included MTB and eMTB geometry. This allows riders to compare a known geo from a favorite bike across to options to the other bike style.
