Business in the front, Party in the Back
The Alchemy Nine7Five is a dedicated “mullet” 29″ front 27.5″ rear wheel setup. The advantage of a designed miss matched wheel bike is it’s geo isn’t compromised from another existence. Bottom bracket and head tube angles are set for ultimate performance, not modified from a taller front end.
The Nine7Five is a bike designed from the needs of Alchemy EWS rider Cody Kelley. It’s at home in the steeps and chunk. It’s fast around the corners. Nine7Five is a basher. But that’s not the end of it. Shorter riders who are looking for the roll over benefits of a 29″ front wheel are drawn to the Mullet or mis-matched wheels.
The Arktos features a dual-linkage platform called “Sine Suspension” that Alchemy licensed exclusively from David Earle. The name “Sine” comes from the shock rate, which resembles a sine wave when graphed. It’s regressive through the first part of the travel to absorb small bumps and provide climbing traction. In the middle of the stroke, its progressive to avoid wallowing on big hits or in hard, fast corners. Then it’s slightly regressive again in the last 15 percent of the stroke to enable the bike to use all 6 inches of its rear-wheel travel. With this bike you could talk technologies and physics all day long, but none of that stuff really matters the moment that you feel the efficiency, responsiveness and control the Arktos gives you on any terrain. It will truly transform what you thought you could do on the mountain.
By comparison the Sine Suspension rides a bit like a VPP, or Virtual Pivot Point, bike. The Arktos is poppy, quick and fun but has a more refined feel particularly early in the travel where it has better small bump compliance and tracking than a typical VPP.
