Description
Here’s a quick go through on installing or trimming your MTB brake lines.
As always the disclaimer! If you have ANY doubts about your mechanical abilities, or about the results before you ride the bike contact a professional… This is really easy when it’s easy – but – you don’t want to be a hero with brakes when your, and frankly other trail users, safety is on the line.
Quick highlights of the video:
If you’re re-routing an internal brake line use a bent cable inserted in the brake hose. Insert the cable in the hose and PULL the hose out slowly through the bike. Insert the new brake hose on the bent cable and slowly PUSH the brake hose through the bike using the cable as a guide.
Use sharp cutters.
Make sure you have all the bits you’ll need including a new olive and barb. Ensure you have all of the parts on the line, in order, before you compress the fittings! (I’ve forgotten the cap, or put the cap on backwards once or twice over the years and if you compress the fittings, well, you’ll need more fittings)
Carefully tighten the assembly without over-tightening and damaging the brake lever. Bleed the brake as appropriate (bleed videos are available at BikeCo.com in our Tips & Tricks or Home Mechanic content sections)
