Yeti SB160 Complete – Turquoise, Radium & Cobalt (images may not show kit referenced on this page)
What’s New on the SB160?
There are a handful of things worth a look for aggressive riders:
The new Yeti features improved Switch Infinity Assembly on the Turq series builds and frames.
The downtube to bottom bracket interface has been angled up slightly for improved clearance.
For riders roosting rocks and dirt onto their beautiful Yeti frames there is a new dual-density downtube protector.
SRAM UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) allows a stiffer rear end with the new 55mm chainline.
Threaded Bottom Brackets.
There are revisions to the suspension’s performance curves designed to allow a more bottomless feel without compromising the trail efficiency these bikes have been known for.

SB160 Linkage
One of the most notable updates to the Yeti linkage on the SB160 from a usability and user-servicable standpoint is the spec and location of the bearings.
Standard sized cartridge bearings, pressed into the linkage, instead of the front or rear triangle mean that if you need to replace a bearing it’s a far less intimidating process.
Racing your SB160? This is going to come up now and then. Ripping your SB160? Well, you’re not as likely to be going through bearing as much as if you’re racing it but with Yeti’s unbeatable frame warranty being able to freshen bearings or even full linkage without messing with press fits in carbon? Love it.
SB160 Linkage Updates & Improvements
The continued evolution of the Yeti SB Switch Infinity Design isn’t limited to the actual lower pivot “Switch” on the new SB160.
The SB160 Linkage features upgrades notable and subtle – both that extend the rider window for the 160mm Yeti 29er.
Some of the other advantages to the new linkage revision include lower stand-over height and more water bottle room, even with the raised down tube to bottom bracket connector (more on that later)
More Linear
As the Yeti EWS proven offering it’s no surprise the SB160 has design details looking for every bit of speed and advantage. While the ordinary, human, non-EWS rider might never take a bike to that capacity these details give a wider range of setup options.
The SB160 is designed with a more linear suspension ramp rate. It’s also been designed to allow a coil setup for riders looking for that performance feel as they thunder through the chunky stuff.
But I want the POP
Modern shocks have a lot of adjustability on the compression circuits allowing riders to create a great balance between the full tilt wide open race personality and something that’s equally at home on your local loop with your buddies before tacos and beer.
Coil or Air?
Chat with our team about the capacity and differences in the SB160 built with the standard air shock versus swapping to a coil. Racing? If you’re looking to raise your game on a single bike you might want to chat about both options. Luckily our team at BikeCo.com has an unmatched expertise when it comes to fine tuning Suspension, Wheels, Brakes and Cockpit.

SB160 Frame Developments
(center) Threaded bottom bracket. Sounds minor? Well, no, not in my book! Threaded bottom brackets are available in a wider range of price (and performance) points. They’re generally easier and less intimidating to change. They tend to creak less although BikeCo’s frame prep service addresses a lot of that anyhow…
(right) SRAM UDH – Universal Derailleur Hanger. Easier to source parts when you have that big moment on a trip and don’t want to miss the next day’s riding. The UDH also allows for a 55mm chainline which produces a stiffer, better tracking rear end.
(left) Improved cable management “stops” are designed to help minimize cable movement keeping the new Yeti quieter even at speed!
SB160 C2 Suspension Details
Learn more about both the stock SB160 C2 suspension as well as the upgraded FOX Factory option.
This is one of the most popular upgrades, especially on Enduro MTB bikes, as it offers the top of the line FOX dampers with improved compression controls.
Learn more about the Yeti SB160’s 170mm Fork Options
Stock: FOX Performance GRIP
Upgrade: FOX Factory Float 38 GRIP2
BikeCo Upgrade: Add the GRIP2 damper to the Performance to create a Performance Elite fork with improved damping on the black body fork.
Both feature 180 Direct Post Mount and capacity for 230mm rotors, Air Channels and Floating Axles
Factory Suspension includes Kashima Coat, enhanced GRIP2 damper with High and Low Speed Rebound as well as Compression, Internally Elliptical Steerer and Air Bleeders.
Air Spring & Volume Spacers
The FOX 38 provides riders a range of setup options using air spring as well as volume spacers.
Suggested sag is 15% for a firm feel and 20% for a plush fork. On the stock 170mm setup 15% equals 25.5mm of sag. 20% will use 34mm of sag.
Volume Spacers
The 170mm FOX 38 is factory spec’d with 2 volume spacers (bike manufacturers may or may not change this). The 170mm fork can carry a maximum of 5 volume spacers.
Do not install more volume spacers than the FOX advises. Installing more than the maximum volume spacers will result in product damage and potential for injuries, etc.

Rebound – 10 clicks of Low Speed rebound control
or Upgrade to the Factory GRIP2:

FOX 38 GRIP2 Rebound Controls
The GRIP2 damper provides both Low (LSR) and High (HSR) rebound controls.
The addition of the High Speed or HSR control provides increased rebound control to account for the higher PSI produced by aggressive or heavier riders.
Typically riders will adjust LSR, Low Speed Rebound, to suit riding style and taste and refer to FOX’s guide for the appropriate HSR, High Speed Rebound, pairing.

STOCK: Performance GRIP
Three on-the-fly compression damping positions: Open, Medium & Firm
Additional detent micro-adjustment between settings
or Upgrade to Factory Suspension

FOX GRIP2 Compression Controls
The FOX GRIP2 damper provides Low and High speed compression controls to fine tune support.
Compression circuits hydraulically damp (or slow) the fork’s input assisting the air spring in providing appropriate mid-stroke and bottom out feel.
Low Speed Compression helps provide mid-stroke support. This allows a bike to ride taller in the travel in cornering while resisting brake dive, rider weight shift and other slow shaft speed inputs.
High Speed Compression works to fine tune bottom out feel as well as other high shaft speed inputs also known as square edge bumps. Example: if you sprint straight into a curb you’re likely to engage the High Speed Compression even if you’re not using full travel. This is due to the speed of the shaft moving oil to compensate for the hit.
SB160 C2 Rear Shock Options
Stock: FOX Performance Float X
Upgrade: FOX Factory Float X2
The 160E C Series builds are spec’d stock with the FOX Performance Float X. Or riders can choose to upgrade to Factory Suspension and the FOX Factory Float X2.
Both shocks provide PSI Adjustment, Volume Spacing Options, as well as Low Speed Rebound and a Open / Firm pedal platform.
The FOX Factory X2 upgrade also provides High Speed Rebound, Improved Compression including Low and High Speed settings.
Particularly with the heavier MTB bikes riders tend to gravitate to the improved compression capacity of the X2 – especially since Yeti provides the upgrade option at such a reasonable price at time of purchase!
Air Spring & Volume Spacers
Both the stock FOX Performance Float X as well as the FOX Factory X2 offer offer air and volume adjustments.
SAG is adjusted by PSI – typically Enduro riding styles gravitate to 25-30% sag. This would measure about 17mm for a plush setup.
Volume Spacers
Volume spacing provides fine tuning options to support the air spring.
By adding volume spacers, thus reducing the volume, you increase the air spring’s ramp rate for improved bottom out support and pop.
Conversely removing volume spacers produces a more linear feel as the air has more volume during shock compression per mm of travel.
Do not install more volume spacers than the FOX advises. Installing more than the maximum volume spacers will result in product damage and potential for injuries, etc.
Stock: Fox Performance Float X
Provides riders Low Speed Rebound Adjustment
Upgrade: FOX Factory Float X2

FOX FLOAT X2 Rebound Controls
The X2 rear shock provides both Low (LSR) and High (HSR) rebound controls.
Low Speed Rebound is located near the Compression Controls and 2 position switch. High Speed Rebound adjustments are made on the opposite end of the shock near the eyelet.
Stock: FOX Performance Float X
On-the-fly Open / Firm Lever
Upgrade: FOX Factory Float X2

FOX X2 Compression Controls
The FOX X2 provides Low and High speed compression controls to fine tune support as well as a 2 position OPEN or FIRM switch..
The FOX X2 provides 16 clicks of Low Speed Compression adjustment as well as 8 clicks of High Speed Compression controls.

SB160 C2 Build Frequent Swaps
Let’s get you exactly what you want with great savings at time of initial purchase!
Below are some common swaps for the Yeti SB160 C2 Complete

Suspension: With the Yeti Factory FOX Suspension upgrade at time of purchase you can get the best suspension on your bike at an unbeatable price.
GX AXS: why not upgrade to the wireless AXS kit?
Brakes: Most riders will upgrade or swap the Code RSC brakes. Shimano XT or XTR, Magura MT7 , the new Hope series – even TRP are making in-roads in the brake market.
Wheels: Onyx silent hubs, Chris King hubs, Industry Nine Hydra – all are at home on a build at this level. We work with a range of carbon rims to allow you to fine tune rim width and stiffness as well. Wheels are a BIG part of a bike’s personality so chat with our team to get it right the first time!
Cockpit: If you have a cockpit you like let’s get it on the bike. Many riders find carbon bars help minimize arm pump and fatigue.
Seating: Like cockpit, if you have a saddle or seatpost you love its a common change across all the builds.
Chain: A LOT of riders will upgrade to the XX1 chain. It has slightly more advanced coatings which give it a longer lifespan as well as color options to highlight your new Yeti dream bike!

SB160 vs SB150 Developments
Check out the Geo comparison below for a more detailed look and size by size comparison of the SB160.
Some of the highlights of the SB160 design include:
Size Specific Updates: A size run from Small to XX-Large wasn’t enough for Yeti. They’ve upped the game with size specific chainstay, effective and actual seattube measurements. This allows a more finite setup no matter what size is the right size. With the size specific chainstay riders on the larger or smaller side of the sizing spectrum will be in a position to better control both front and rear wheel in a wide range of terrain.
Overall Lower Seattube: Run a longer travel seatpost for improved clearance in the steeps.
64 degree headtube is 0.5 degrees slacker than the SB150 for a longer trail measurement.
Improved Ground Clearance: A product of moving the shock forward, the bottom bracket box and down tube connection was able to be raised notably compared to the SB150 for better ground clearance. Without sacrificing water bottle space!

Yeti SB160: Comparative Bikes
What else is on your short list when shopping the Yeti SB160?
Well, the new Yeti has more travel than most of it’s Enduro competition – so if you’re looking for the most bike for the burliest days – the SB160 is a tough bike to beat.
Currently the list of bikes that are comparable to the Yeti SB160 would be the Ibis Ripmo with a 170mm fork and the 150mm travel Mondraker FOXY. Both available from BikeCo.com.
