Yeti SB165 Mullet Options
Like the Yeti SB140 the SB165 is designed as a 27.5″ bike. However, it’s geometry and personality make it a great candidate for a 29″ front wheel or mullet build.
Why add a 29″ wheel? Improved roll over, cornering traction and braking.
Why not go to a true 29″ with the bigger wheel as well? The smaller 27.5″ wheel is quicker around corners and the smaller diameter means riders can get lower on the bike in the steeps or jumps.
De-Traveled Mullet Setup
With the increase of the wheel radius a Mullet 29″ will have a shorter fork travel than it’s 27.5″ counterpart. We’ve actually gone a bit further with the concept and have been working with 29″ forks that mimic the axle to crown measurement as close as possible to the designed 27.5″. This gives the bike a turning and climbing personality close to the Yeti design. Poppy, Confident, Fun. Giving up the extra travel on the fork is negated by the additional “false travel” or increased feel from the larger wheel.
One of the most notable improvements when going to a 29″ front wheel from a 27.5″ option is the extra traction when braking. The larger fore to aft contact patch means the the bike is working harder without as much input. This is great in situations where you may have to trail brake into a corner.

Learn more about the Yeti SB165 Frame’s FOX Factory DHX2 Coil Shock
DHX2 Coil Spring
The DHX2 provides support with coil spring. Variable spring rates are available depending on rider size and preference.
Along with coil spring rating an adjustable preload helps fine tune setup.
Factory DHX2 High & Low Speed Rebound
With 16 clicks of Low Speed Rebound as well as 8 clicks of High Speed Rebound the DHX2 allows fine tuning for your terrain.
Rebound controls the coil spring’s return to a neutral loaded position. Higher coil spring rates will require more rebound control.
As riders ground speed increases rebound will be sped up to allow the suspension to reset prior to the next feature to avoid suspension pack.
Factory DHX2 High & Low Speed Compression
Compression controls are vital on coil shocks to help provide bottom out resistance as well as additional mid-stroke support. The linear coil spring is great for plush riding but may use more travel than a rider’s preference. That’s where the 16 clicks of Low Speed Compression as well as 8 clicks of High Speed Compression the DHX2 allows fine tuning for your terrain.
The DHX2 also provides a 2 position OPEN / FIRM climb switch for those all day adventures.
