GX Suspension Details

The Ibis DV9 GX is spec’d with FOX Performance fork.

The fork is a Float 34 Step-Cast Performance model with a GRIP damper. Fork travel for the DV9 is spec’d at 120mm. Tuning is done via PSI, volume spacers, rebound and a three position low speed compression control.

DV9 Suspension Upgrade

A popular upgrade to the DV9 Performance fork is our proprietary Pro Tune service.

With less travel on an XC bike its’ even more crucial to have your suspension as setup and dialed in as possible, using every millimeter as efficiently as possible.

Some riders may want to upgrade to the FIT4 damper as well creating a Performance Elite fork. The FIT4 provides additional low speed compression tuning controls

BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension

Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our Pro Tune Suspension services.

FOX has the best suspension on the market – but why not make it even better? At BikeCo our suspension team will narrow the performance band of the stock suspension based on your size, riding style, ground speed, aspirations and terrain.

The short version? FOX is built for to work for every rider size at every riding speed. You’re not every rider, right? Chat with our team about how BikeCo Pro Tune suspension will take your riding to the next level. Because Every Click Counts.

GX Drivetrain Details

The GX drivetrain is one of the most popular cable shifting options on the market. It features great performance and has a wide range of upgrades available at time of purchase or down the line.

The most common upgrade to the DV9 GX drivetrain would be cranks. SRAM’s NGX cranks are excellent and will last nearly indefinitely – however – some riders prefer lighter alloy crank options on the GX bike.

GX Wheel and Tire Details

Ibis 933 aluminum hubs laced to Ibis hubs are the factory spec on the DV9 GX bike.

This is a popular wheelset providing medium to higher tire volume setup. With the 933 rim’s 29mm internal width this is a great option to mount a wide range of XC, Trail and light Enduro tires.

The DV9 has a maximum rear tire is listed as 2.6″. Riders gravitating to the larger tires might investigate wider rim options for higher volume tire setups. This provides a larger tire footprint for maximum grip while allowing lower PSIs to compliment grip and provide some additional small bump compliance.

Common DV9 Wheel Upgrades

Some riders may investigate carbon wheel on the DV9. Carbon provides improved torque transfer with a slight weight savings.

DV9 Tire Swaps

Often riders have specific setup desires, particularly on tires. Let’s get you riding tires that will work in your terrain and with your riding style from the get go.

Maybe you’re looking for a combination of the Rekon Race, an Ikon or an Aggressor? Perhaps you’d prefer a more robust sidewall like the EXO Plus to improve small bump compliance a bit. No issues, we’ve got you. Chat with our team about your riding specifics and we’ll dial in your DV9’s tire spec.

This is the most important and most upgraded area of all DV9’s. Many riders find the 31.8mm alloy handlebars less appealing then a modern 35mm carbon handlebar setup.

Already have a go-to setup? Perfect. Let’s get it on your build. Want to know where GX riders tend to gravitate?

35mm diameter cockpits are frequent upgrades to the GX bike. Carbon fiber options from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and RaceFace are available in a variety of rises to fine tune your fit. Bars also have various levels of compliance and getting a bar right for your weight and riding style goes a long way to improving your trail experience.

Some riders will stay with an alloy bar, however, depending on your size you may still investigate different rise and width options. We have great alloy bars from Tag and Renthal, and OneUp in a range of sizes.

Having your hands in the proper place dramatically improves both your riding experience and comfort. Let our team help you spec a cockpit that will ride confidently up and down hill.

Brakes are an important factor in your bike’s overall personality.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades

BikeCo offers the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

Riders looking for great power with snappy performance gravitate to Shimano SLX, XT and XTR brakes.

TRP offers even a little more power with slightly improved modulation compared to Shimano.

With the Tech 4 Hope has increased their total power in-line with Shimano and Magura without compromising their amazing modulation.

Magura continues to be the most popular aftermarket brake, especially installed on new builds. We will credit you for any part swaps and with the variety of Magura price points most riders find the MT5 and MT7 brakes provide unbeatable value. Magura brakes offer great total power and top tier modulation without feeling soft. Magura offers a variety of brake levers to help riders fine tune their performance.

Ibis DV9 Geometry

Ibis DV9 Geometry

The DV9 is offered in Small through X-Large and designed for rides from 5′ 0″ to 6′ 5″ in height.

Along with height DV9 riders will want to compare sizes based on inseam and arm length as well. Riders on the sizing cusp will reference leg length to help determine the ideal sizing.

Another thing to take into account sizing a hardtail like the DV9 is what your intended use is and will you be able to get your cockpit setup in an ideal position. If you’re building a more playful, confident DV9 you’ll want to keep your stem and bars in a more trail or even enduro type setup. Shorter stem, often with higher rise bars. For a more “racy” build a slightly longer stem with lower bars will likely be a more ideal positioning.

Wondering which bike provides you the best fit? Our expert team is here to help you define how your size, riding style, terrain and aspirations will effect your ideal sizing. Reach out to our team about your Ibis DV9 purchase by chat, email or phone!

Ibis Ripley AF GX Spec Details

Ripley AF GX Suspension
Fork FOX Performance 34, 130mm
Shock FOX Performance 34, 130mm
Ibis Ripley AF GX build suspension details

The Ripley AF comes spec’d with Fox Performance 34 and Float from Ibis direct.

When it comes to Ripley AF builds, Ibis’ choice is the Float 34 Performance fork, offering a 130mm travel range along with the versatile GRIP damper. With 10 clicks of rebound adjustment and 3 compression control positions, you’ll have precise control over your front suspension. Plus, as with all FOX air forks, you can fine-tune support and ramp rate using volume spacers.

The rear shock, also Ibis’ choice, is the FOX Performance DPS. It’s equipped with adjustable rebound and a climb switch for added versatility. Just like the fork, you can tailor the DPS’s ramp rate and support to your preferences with volume spacers.

Ready to take your Ripley AF suspension to the next level? Here are some popular upgrades:

One of the most favored upgrades is switching to a 140mm air shaft. This tweak gives your bike a with a slightly more relaxed geometry, making it confidently handle larger and more challenging terrain. The longer axle to crown measurement results in a slacker headtube angle and a higher bottom bracket – changes commonly found on longer-travel bikes.

Curious if the 140mm fork is right for you? Reach out to our team for insights into rider preferences between the 140mm and the stock 130mm option.

Upgrade to FOX GRIP2 Damper: Another common upgrade is swapping out the FOX GRIP damper for the GRIP2. With the GRIP2 on the Performance chassis, you’ll have a Performance Elite fork at your disposal. This damper offers high and low-speed compression adjustments in addition to rebound adjustments, enabling you to fine-tune your fork’s performance to perfection.

Explore Our Pro Tune Service for Ultimate Suspension Performance.

If you’re seeking even more from your suspension, it’s time to discover our exclusive Pro Tune service. BikeCo’s Pro Tunes can narrow the performance window of both your fork and shock, tailoring them precisely to your riding style and preferences. Unleash the full potential of your bike’s suspension with a custom Pro Tune.

GX Drivetrain Details

The GX drivetrain is Ibis, and SRAM’s, workhorse tier groupset.

What does that mean for you? That means you get a drivetrain that costs significantly less than higher tier models, works incredibly well, and can be easily upgraded to gain a large percent of the performance back.

Drivetrain Upgrades

By far, the most popular and influential upgrade is going to to the XO1 shifter which provides a much more precise cable pull and therefor shifting. Of course, with GX AXS on the market, that’s not a hard decision to make either, is it?

Some riders will also upgrade cranks to save weight, but we would recommend you focus on shifting performance for your dollar before chasing a few grams. Chat with the team at BikeCo.com and we’ll answer any questions you might have!

GX Wheel and Tire Details

Ibis’ Blackbird Send rims laced to Ibis Logo hubs are a great spec on the Ripley AF GX kit. The 35mm internal rim width provides a large volume tire shape for maximum traction. Do you prefer slightly narrower rims? Looking for other options on the GX build?

Popular wheel upgrades typically feature more robust hub systems such as Chris King, Industry Nine or Onyx are popular. Do you prefer aluminum rims like the WTB, RideFast or Factor? Carbon rims improve power transfer and tracking. Popular options include NOX or Ibis Carbon to suit your riding. At BikeCo.com our expert wheel builders have you covered. Carbon or aluminum. Medium or high volume. We know what wheel will compliment your riding.

Ripley AF Tire Swaps and Upgrades

Selecting the Right Tires for Your GX Ripley AF is a very easy way to personalize Your ride.

Choosing the ideal tires for your GX Ripley AF is a pivotal step in defining your bike’s character.

Ibis’ Ripley AF comes equipped with tire specifications that some riders may find rather aggressive for their preferences.

Ibis opts for the Maxxis Minion DHR II with an EXO sidewall as the front tire. The DHR II is a front tire option that many riders will appreciate, offering enhanced braking capabilities compared to the Minion DHF. For those seeking a faster-rolling front tire, the DHF is also available in EXO, EXO Plus, and Double Down sidewall variants.

While some riders may contemplate switching out the front tire, the majority often consider altering the rear tire, originally spec’d as the Dissector. The two most commonly chosen rear tires for the Ripley are the Maxxis Minion DHR II or the Maxxis Aggressor, both known for their superior rolling speed when compared to the Dissector. Furthermore, riders have the flexibility to choose from a variety of sidewalls and widths between the DHR II and the Aggressor for the rear tire.

Already have a preferred tire combination in mind? Let us tailor your setup accordingly. Tires are a matter of personal preference, whether you favor an EXO Plus rear, a Double Down front, or any specific tire like the DHF, Dissector, or Aggressor – we’ll ensure your bike arrives perfectly configured to your liking.

In search of rim protection? Look no further. Chat with our team, and we’ll arrange for CushCore Pro or XC rim protection to be installed before your bike’s delivery, safeguarding your rims for your adventures ahead.

GX Cockpit & Brakes Details

Much like tires, cockpit and brake upgrades are common among riders.

Do you already have a grip/bar/stem combination in mind? If so, let’s fine-tune your build to your specifications.

Why consider upgrading your cockpit? Your bike’s fit is crucial. Some riders may require handlebars with different rises to optimize their performance. On the Ripley AF, there are both aluminum and carbon options that are popular choices.

For those looking to change their handlebars, many GX riders prefer a 35mm diameter cockpit. Alloy bars from Renthal or Tag are frequently selected. Carbon handlebars with a 35mm diameter are the most sought-after cockpit upgrade. You’ll find options from OneUp, Tag, Renthal, and RaceFace, available in various rises to precisely match your fit preferences. Additionally, handlebars come in different compliance levels, and selecting the right bar for your weight and riding style can significantly enhance your trail experience. Explore our range of cockpit options and optimize your bike’s setup for an exceptional ride.

Brake choice can make or break a rider’s experience and a bike’s capabilities.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripley AF GX

At BikeCo, we’ve curated an exceptional selection of brakes from renowned brands like Shimano, TRP, Hope, and Magura, ensuring you have access to the best options available.

For riders seeking robust power combined with snappy performance, Shimano’s GX, XT, and XTR brakes are the go-to choice. These brakes are known for their reliable power delivery and precision.

TRP takes it a step further by offering even more power and improved modulation when compared to Shimano brakes. If you’re looking for that extra edge in performance, TRP has you covered.

Hope, with their Tech 4 brakes, has amped up their overall power, aligning them with Shimano and Magura while retaining their exceptional modulation capabilities. It’s a perfect blend of power and control.

Magura, a top favorite for aftermarket brake upgrades and often featured on new builds, continues to impress. At BikeCo, we offer credit for part swaps, making it easier to upgrade to Magura brakes. With a range of price points, many riders find unbeatable value in Magura’s MT5 and MT7 brakes. These brakes offer substantial total power and top-tier modulation without feeling overly soft. Magura also provides a variety of brake levers, allowing riders to fine-tune their braking performance to perfection. Explore our selection and elevate your bike’s stopping power with confidence.

GX Suspension Details

Each Ibis factory Ripley is spec’d with the class leading FOX Factory suspension.

The FOX Float 34 GRIP2 features Kashima coated uppers as well as high speed and low speed adjustments for both rebound and compression. The GRIP2 damper is ideal for aggressive riders or those looking for maximum tune range. Riders looking for a more XC personality often swap dampers to the FIT4 option. Wondering which is right for you? Chat with our team to define how to get the perfect Ripley personality for your riding.

With the FOX Factory DPS riders have rebound, a climb switch as well as three low speed compression settings for the Open mode. Some riders investigate the FOX Float X for a slightly more aggressive shock, however, the timeline on the Float X 190x45mm has been hit or miss.

Ripley Suspension Upgrade

The most common suspension upgrades to the Ibis Ripley are our Pro Tune service as well as 140mm air shafts for forks.

BikeCo Pro Tunes shift the performance window of the fork and shock narrowing them based on your riding specifics.

The 140mm fork option gives the Ripley a slightly slacker headtube angle and higher bottom bracket. This is popular for riders pushing deeper into the Enduro riding style or those who prefer a bit slower handling.

Chat with our team about riding styles and terrain conditions that benefit the 140mm fork on an Ibis Ripley!

Ibis uses the SRAM GX drivetrain to power it’s most cost-conscious build. SRAM Eagle is known for it’s longevity and its extended service intervals.

The GX build utilizes wear parts that are often upgraded at the service intervals including the chain and cassette.

What are the most common upgrades to the Ripley GX drivetrain? While SRAM NX cranks get the job done a common upgrade is to jump to the GX or other aluminum cranks.

Some riders update to the SRAM GX AXS wireless derailleur and shifter. With the release of the GX AXS Transmission Ripley the AXS upgrade is less common on this build spec.

If you’re looking for something a bit different more robust hub systems such as Chris King, Industry Nine or Onyx are popular. Consider whether you’ll prefer aluminum rims like the WTB, RideFast or Factor or whether the improved power transfer and tracking of carbon like NOX or Ibis Carbon suit your riding. At BikeCo.com our expert wheel builders have you covered. Carbon or aluminum. Medium or high volume. We know what wheel will compliment your riding.

Ripley Tire Swaps and Upgrades

One area we see many riders swap or upgrade the SLX Ripley is tires.

Ibis’ Ripley tire spec is a bit aggressive for a lot of riders preference.

The front tire spec’d by Ibis is the Maxxis Minion DHR II with EXO sidewall. The DHR II is a tire many riders will like as a front option. It has a bit more braking capacity than the Minion DHF. The DHF is a faster rolling option and available in EXO, EXO Plus as well as Double down sidewalls.

While some riders swap the front tire, most will consider swapping the Dissector spec’d in the rear. The two most common tires found on the rear of the Ripley are the Maxxis Minion DHR II or the Maxxis Aggressor. Both of these are faster rolling than the Dissector. Riders have a range of sidewalls and widths between the DHR II and the Aggressor for a rear tire.

Have a favorite tire combo? Let’s get you dialed in. Tires are a very personal feel and if you prefer an EXO Plus rear, or a Double Down front, or a DHF, Dissector, Aggressor, whatever – let’s get you setup right, right out of the box.

Looking for rim protection? We have you covered there too. Chat with our team to get CushCore Pro or XC rim protection installed before delivery.

GX Cockpit & Brakes Details

Cockpit and brakes spec are a common place for upgrades and swaps.

Do you have a grip / bar / stem combo in mind? Great, let’s dial in your build.

So what are common upgrades to the GX build cockpit?

Riders often will update to a 35mm diameter cockpit with alloy bars from Renthal or Tag. Another very popular option is to go to 35mm diameter carbon handlebars. We work with OneUp, Tag, Renthal and RaceFace. These bars are available in a variety of rises to fine tune your fit. Bars also have various levels of compliance and getting a bar right for your weight and riding style goes a long way to improving your trail experience.

With so much personality dependent on your brake selection its’ no wonder we see SO many spec changes here.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripley GX

We offer the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

GX Suspension Details

Marzocchi suspension is spec’d front and rear on the Ripmo AF.

The fork is the Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil at 160mm travel. A medium spring is included from Ibis, however, our team at BikeCo ensures you get the right spring setup for your weight and riding style.

The Bomber Z1 fork damper is familiar as it is the same as the robust FOX GRIP damper.

On the Ripmo AF Ibis spec’s the Marzocchi Bomber Air shock. This shock provides a wide range of tuning options and can accommodate nearly all rider sizes.

Ripmo AF Suspension Upgrades

While most Ripmo AF riders keep the Marzocchi spec we do setup bikes with the FOX options seen on the carbon Ripmo.

The FOX 38 GRIP2 provides adjustments through PSI, Volume Spacing as well as High and Low Speed Rebound and High and Low Speed Compression.

With the Float X2 riders are provided similar adjustments. PSI, Volume Spacing, High and Low speed Rebound as well as Compression.

GX Drivetrain Details

The Ripmo AF GX kit uses the SRAM Eagle 12sp system. This is a popular spec for riders looking for a drivetrain that won’t need a ton of micro adjustments to keep shifting. SRAM’s drivetrains are known to be reliable and extremely long lasting. Keep them relatively clean and well lubed and you’ll be amazed with the service life of the Eagle bits.

Two upgades we see to the GX build:

Upgraded alloy cranks. The NX cranks definitely get it done. But, there are some excellent aluminum crank options these days. Whether you’re looking for some additional bling, performance or both BikeCo has #thebestinMTB.

Another popular upgrade is the GX AXS derailleur and shifter. Wireless shifting with AXS is one of the more frequent upgrades we see on the SRAM GX builds.

GX Wheel and Tire Details

Ibis’ Blackbird Send wheels are a great spec on the Ripmo AF GX build. With a 35mm internal rim width a relatively high volume tire shape is achieved. This allows riders to take advantage or lower PSI for more traction.

Riders looking for that special build may shop King or i9 hubs in that ideal color to accent their build. Occasionally riders will upgrade to carbon wheels, but most wheel upgrades on the AF SLX build use alloy rims from WTB, RideFast or Factor.

The Maxxis Assegai 2.5″ EXO Plus front tire is a great choice for aggressive riding. Similarly the DHR II EXO Plus provides riders with a robust option. Some riders may prefer the added protection and damping of Double Down sidewalls. These are popular in aggressive terrain as well as allow riders even lower PSI for improved traction.

Some lighter riders may prefer the quicker acceleration of the EXO sidewall.

Riders looking for a faster rolling tire setup should investigate swapping the Assegai for a DHF. And in the rear an Aggressor instead of the DHR II is a faster accelerating option.

Already have a favorite tire pairing? Let’s get it on your Ripmo AF right off the bat.

No matter which model or brand you’re shopping, to get the fit right you might be swapping or upgrading handlebar and stem! Some riders will prefer a 35mm diameter combo. Others will need a taller rise handlebar. Some prefer to upgrade to carbon options to improve damping and take some of the abuse our of their hands. BikeCo has you covered.

Is there a grip / bar / stem combo you like? No problem, we can get your bike spec perfect for you.

What are the most common cockpit upgrades to the Ripmo AF GX build?

Alloy handlebars from Renthal and Tag in 35mm diameter are great for taller rise bar options.

However, more often we see riders go to carbon 35mm handlebars. This improves the damping of through the aluminum AF bike. The most popular upgrades are to the OneUp or Tag carbon bars. Both feature design and layup considerations to maximize damping and reduce hand fatigue.

Having the right bar is important. MTB bars are offered with different levels of stiffness. When you trim a bar this is modified (as you trim the bar you lower the leverage ratio). Getting a bar right for your weight and riding style goes a long way to improving your trail experience. Ideally riders should balance power transfer with bars compliant enough to minimize hand fatigue.

Chat with our team for details on handlebar setup differences for your MTB.

Probably the most common upgrade in MTB is getting brakes that compliment your riding style. Keep reading for more details on the importance of having a confident brake setup for your needs.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripmo AF GX

BikeCo provides the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

The stock SRAM G2 brakes are a decent option for lighter riders. However, larger and more aggressive riders are likely to swap these with a similarly priced pair from Hope, Magura, Shimano or TRP.

Shimano brakes provide good power with snappy performance. This is in part from their short lever throw. Many riders gravitate to Shimano SLX, XT and XTR brakes.

Other riders may prefer brakes with more modulation. Modulation is how much “feel” or lever stroke there is between applying the brakes and full application.

TRP brakes provide a little more power with slightly improved modulation compared to Shimano.

Riders looking for even great modulation should review Hope and Magura brakes.

The new Hope Tech 4 lineup increased their total power in-line with Shimano and Magura without compromising their amazing modulation.

Chat with our team about which brake will work best for your riding style and preferences. We can help you find brakes in a wide range of price points to ensure you’re not settling on such a big piece of your bike’s personality.

The KS Rage-I dropper post is a budget friendly option. It’s spec’d in a range of sizes depending on frame size.

Some riders will upgrade this post at time of purchase. The FOX Transfer Performance, Bike Yoke, PNW or OneUp are posts you’ll often see on a GX bike.

MANY riders will update the seatpost lever. Upgrades from PNW and Wolf Tooth improve functionality and feel at a relatively minor cost.

Looking for the selling points for the WTB Silverado saddle? It is a classic for a reason: it’s comfortable and it performs.

Ibis Ripmo AF Geo

Use these tabs to review and compare the Ripmo AF geo to other enduro bikes from Ibis, Mondraker, Nukeproof and Yeti.

The Ripmo AF is offered in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. Riders from 5′ to 6′ 5″ are accommodated with fairly standard cockpit setups.

Shared dimensions include the stock 160mm fork producing a 64.9 degree headtube angle with a 341mm bottom bracket and 435mm chainstay length. Riders looking for a little more may gravitate to the 170mm fork option for a slightly slacker headtube and increased trail measurement.

Fit is determined with rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders with notably longer or short legs may up or down size. If you find yourself between sizes chat with our team about fit details. This is particularly important for riders between Small and Medium or Large and X-Large as some of the geo changes are more notable than between the Medium and Large Ripmo AF bikes.

Questions on sizing? Get in touch with our team and we are happy to go over your details to ensure we get you on the right size bike. We can help you define which size will give you a more confident fit and feel for your riding terrain and style.

A popular high-volume option Ibis’ Blackbird Send rims laced to Ibis Logo hubs are a great option for this build.

If you’re looking for something a bit different more robust hub systems such as Chris King, Industry Nine or Onyx are popular. At BikeCo.com our expert wheel builders have you covered. Carbon or aluminum. Medium or high volume. We know what wheel will compliment your riding.

The Maxxis Assegai 2.5″ EXO Plus front and rear is a burly tire combo. The Ripmo is a bike at home in burly terrain so the tire spec make sense. However, some riders may prefer faster rolling option like the Minion DHF front or a DHR II or Aggressor rear. Depending on riding style and size we see everything from EXO, EXO Plus to Double Down tires spec’d on Ripmos.

I Shift SRAM GX Eagle Review

I Shift SRAM, GX Eagle Review

SRAM’s GX Eagle drivetrain has been far and away the most popular option over the last couple seasons. Whether you’re looking at the value on a factory build or even spec’ing a full custom the SRAM GX option is worth a long look. After a few months running it on my personal bike here’s a GX Eagle review.

I’ve been running SRAM drivetrains, typically X01, for years now. There are a handful of reasons that I went that direction, all of which are still applicable with the GX options.

Building my last bike using the SRAM GX Eagle options allowed me to rearrange where I spent my budget. Like many of our clients I ended up with custom Chris King wheels, Magura Brakes with the GX Eagle drivetrain. Continue reading I Shift SRAM, GX Eagle Review
