The fork is the Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil at 160mm travel. A medium spring is included from Ibis, however, our team at BikeCo ensures you get the right spring setup for your weight and riding style.

The Bomber Z1 fork damper is familiar as it is the same as the robust FOX GRIP damper.

GX Drivetrain Details

The Ripmo AF GX kit uses the SRAM Eagle 12sp system. This is a popular spec for riders looking for a drivetrain that won’t need a ton of micro adjustments to keep shifting. SRAM’s drivetrains are known to be reliable and extremely long lasting. Keep them relatively clean and well lubed and you’ll be amazed with the service life of the Eagle bits.

Two upgades we see to the GX build:

Upgraded alloy cranks. The NX cranks definitely get it done. But, there are some excellent aluminum crank options these days. Whether you’re looking for some additional bling, performance or both BikeCo has #thebestinMTB.

Another popular upgrade is the GX AXS derailleur and shifter. Wireless shifting with AXS is one of the more frequent upgrades we see on the SRAM GX builds.

GX Wheel and Tire Details

Ibis’ Blackbird Send wheels are a great spec on the Ripmo AF GX build. With a 35mm internal rim width a relatively high volume tire shape is achieved. This allows riders to take advantage or lower PSI for more traction.

Riders looking for that special build may shop King or i9 hubs in that ideal color to accent their build. Occasionally riders will upgrade to carbon wheels, but most wheel upgrades on the AF SLX build use alloy rims from WTB, RideFast or Factor.

The Maxxis Assegai 2.5″ EXO Plus front tire is a great choice for aggressive riding. Similarly the DHR II EXO Plus provides riders with a robust option. Some riders may prefer the added protection and damping of Double Down sidewalls. These are popular in aggressive terrain as well as allow riders even lower PSI for improved traction.

Some lighter riders may prefer the quicker acceleration of the EXO sidewall.

Riders looking for a faster rolling tire setup should investigate swapping the Assegai for a DHF. And in the rear an Aggressor instead of the DHR II is a faster accelerating option.

Already have a favorite tire pairing? Let’s get it on your Ripmo AF right off the bat. Tires are a very personal feel and if you prefer an EXO Plus rear, or a Double Down front, or a DHF, Dissector, Aggressor, whatever – let’s get you setup right, right out of the box.

Looking for rim protection? We have you covered there too. Chat with our team to get CushCore Pro or XC rim protection installed before delivery.

GX Cockpit & Brakes Details

No matter which model or brand you’re shopping, to get the fit right you might be swapping or upgrading handlebar and stem! Some riders will prefer a 35mm diameter combo. Others will need a taller rise handlebar. Some prefer to upgrade to carbon options to improve damping and take some of the abuse our of their hands. BikeCo has you covered.

Is there a grip / bar / stem combo you like? No problem, we can get your bike spec perfect for you.

What are the most common cockpit upgrades to the Ripmo AF GX build?

Alloy handlebars from Renthal and Tag in 35mm diameter are great for taller rise bar options.

However, more often we see riders go to carbon 35mm handlebars. This improves the damping of through the aluminum AF bike. The most popular upgrades are to the OneUp or Tag carbon bars. Both feature design and layup considerations to maximize damping and reduce hand fatigue.

Having the right bar is important. MTB bars are offered with different levels of stiffness. When you trim a bar this is modified (as you trim the bar you lower the leverage ratio). Getting a bar right for your weight and riding style goes a long way to improving your trail experience. Ideally riders should balance power transfer with bars compliant enough to minimize hand fatigue.

Chat with our team for details on handlebar setup differences for your MTB.

Probably the most common upgrade in MTB is getting brakes that compliment your riding style. Keep reading for more details on the importance of having a confident brake setup for your needs.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripmo AF GX

BikeCo provides the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

The stock SRAM G2 brakes are a decent option for lighter riders. However, larger and more aggressive riders are likely to swap these with a similarly priced pair from Hope, Magura, Shimano or TRP.

Shimano brakes provide good power with snappy performance. This is in part from their short lever throw. Many riders gravitate to Shimano SLX, XT and XTR brakes.

Other riders may prefer brakes with more modulation. Modulation is how much “feel” or lever stroke there is between applying the brakes and full application.

TRP brakes provide a little more power with slightly improved modulation compared to Shimano.

Riders looking for even great modulation should review Hope and Magura brakes.

The new Hope Tech 4 lineup increased their total power in-line with Shimano and Magura without compromising their amazing modulation.

Magura continues to be the most popular aftermarket brake, especially installed on new builds. We will credit you for any part swaps and with the variety of Magura price points most riders find the MT5 and MT7 brakes provide unbeatable value. Magura brakes offer great total power and top tier modulation without feeling soft. Magura offers a variety of brake levers to help riders fine tune their performance.

Chat with our team about which brake will work best for your riding style and preferences. We can help you find brakes in a wide range of price points to ensure you’re not settling on such a big piece of your bike’s personality.

MANY riders will update the seatpost lever. Upgrades from PNW and Wolf Tooth improve functionality and feel at a relatively minor cost.

Compare the Ibis Ripmo AF UDH Completes

The Ripmo AF UDH is a bike designed to parallel the carbon Ripmo’s trail personality.

Meaning? It’s a confident, comfortable bike in a wide range of terrain.

Ibis’ spec options provide riders a lot of value across the board. In fact, many experienced riders would enjoy a Ripmo AF UDH build with minor updates as a quiver bike as well. What updates might you consider on the Ripmo AF UDH? Let’s take a look at the similarities, key differences as well as common swaps and upgrades in the tabs below.

Ibis Ripmo: Carbon or Aluminum

One of the first questions we’re asked is to define the trail differences between the Ripmo and the Ripmo AF UDH.

You can scroll down to compare the geometry – overall they’re very close. The main difference is found between the aluminum and carbon fiber material.

Ibis makes a high quality aluminum bike. The Ripmo AF UDH  and Ripley AF UDH have trail proven mileage and are ready for anything you’ll want to throw at it. The differences riders can feel will be weight, a bit of damping and vibrancy.

Weight matters, but most riders won’t choose one or the other simply based on weight.

Carbon fiber provides additional damping. This is based on the weaved material, the layup as well as shapes to transfer load that carbon lends itself to. The aluminum bike will transfer a bit more of the trail frequency to the rider. However, with carbon bars such as the OneUp or Tag models offering designed damping Ripmo AF UDH riders can upgrade cockpit for improved damping.

Another material difference is found in how vibrant the frame will feel. Carbon bikes tend to have and maintain a bit more of a vibrant feel longer into their service life.

The only riders shopping aluminum that I ask to take a long look at the materials are, well riders like me! If you’re a heavier rider (I’m somewhere in the 260 range these days) the carbon fiber will stay vibrant notably longer. Heavier or really aggressive riders may find the aluminum will work harden, which ironically means it will get softer, and the bikes aren’t as crisp a couple seasons in.

Also, riders looking at a Ripmo AF with a 170mm fork might look at the carbon bike as well. The Carbon Ripmo can help with the modified geo as well as it is spec’d with the FOX Factory fork that is a popular 170mm option.

Ibis Ripmo AF Kit Differences

The aluminum Ripmo AF is available in 3 kits. 2 Shimano options and a SRAM GX.

Shimano Deore and SLX Kits

SLX components will be a bit lighter than the Deore kit. Overall the performance in Shimano stays crisp across lineup, however the SLX kit tends to have a slightly longer service life.

The SLX kit also features the upgraded Bike Yoke Revive dropper post.

SRAM GX Complete

The Ripmo AF is available in a SRAM GX kit as well. Overall the SRAM cable drivetrains will shift in a wider range or adjustment than the Shimano offerings. The other side of this coin is while Shimano shifts quite smooth the SRAM drivetrains have a bit more thump to them.

A popular option for the GX complete, as well as the SLX build for some riders, is an upgrade to the GX AXS derailleur and shifter. Read more about this on the upgrade tab.

Common Ibis Ripmo AF UDH Upgrades and Swaps

Ibis Ripmo AF Upgrades and Swaps

Ibis spec’s a great kit. But, there are some common upgrades and swaps to the Ripmo AF builds. Let’s take a look at where clients can find added performance without breaking the bank.

Frankly there really aren’t any “no-go” parts for the Deore, GX or SLX Ripmo AF bikes. But, when it comes to a precise fit or personality there are a range of components buyers should review. At BikeCo we take pride feting that perfect part in the right color to personalize the Ripmo AF’s performance, fit or look.

Common Ripmo AF Upgrades

These upgrades will help you get the right fit or modify the trail performance of your bike. Our sales staff takes a lot of pride getting riders dialed in: if you have questions don’t hesitate to call, email or use the web chat. Having a better understanding of your size, riding style, typical terrain and aspirations will allow us to fine to a spec within your budget!

Rider Contact Points

Since there are so many pedal options and preferences your Ripmo AF doesn’t have a stock pedal. BikeCo offers the best selection of clipless and flat pedals as well as offers incredible pricing when purchased with a complete bike.

Flat pedals are available in a range of sizes and concave. Depending on the size of your foot or preference you may find that a general shape works better.

Clipless pedals are available with more or less “float” or lateral movement before they disengage. Shimano clipless pedals have minimal float while pedals like Time offer more motion and rotation prior to disengagement.

If you know your preference let’s get you dialed in with your favorite. Should you have questions on which pedals are right for you work with our sales team to understand the advantages of each model we carry.

Grips are another area of personal preference. The stock Ripmo AF grips work well – but if you have something you prefer we’re happy to get it for you.

Tires

Like contact points many riders develop a “go-to” tire spec. Tires are one of the most common swaps on any bike. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

More aggressive riders tend to gravitate to robust sidewalls. The Maxxis Double Down technology is popular. Along with the additional resistance to cuts or abrasion Double Down tires also improve damping.

Lighter riders or those in riding in less aggressive terrain may prefer the faster and quicker accelerating EXO sidewalls.

Those looking for a faster rolling tire spec gravitate to a Minion DHF front and DHR II or even an Aggressor rear tire.

Looking for rim protection? We have that covered too. CushCore Pro and XC are popular. Some riders prefer to mix and match. Chat with our team about rim protection options and advantages for aggressive riding.

Cockpit

Bars and stems are a very common swap or upgrade to the Ibis Factory Spec. Often a 35mm diameter combination is preferred to the stock 31.8mm options.

Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. Looking for suggestions? We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.

Carbon bars are a very popular upgrade to the Ripmo AF. This gives the bike additional damping at the grips for a less fatiguing trail feel. Particularly the OneUp Carbon and Tag bars are popular for this purpose.

Chat with our team about hand positioning and the advantages of getting the right handlebar rise on your new rig.

Brakes

This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.

Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.

TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.

Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.

The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.

Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.

Wireless Shifting

RIpmo AF builds like the GX and the SLX are popular options for the standard  GX AXS upgrade.

Chat with our team about mating the GX AXS with Shimano Drivetrains.

Ibis Ripmo AF UDH Geometry

The Ripmo AF UDH is available in four sizes. Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. The provided options for riders from 5′ to 6′ 5″.

Use the tabs below for more info on the Ripmo AF UDH Geo, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the Ripmo AF UDH measures up against other Enduro MTB bikes on the Comparison tab.

Like other Ibis bikes the Ripmo AF UDH size is determined by rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders in the height cross-over of sizes will determine the ideal size from inseam, flexibility and riding style.

Longer leg riders will tend to upsize to improve riding position. This increases the wheelbase but allows for a shorter cockpit. These create a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity. Being less cramped in the cockpit allows riders a more comfortable, confident fit. The larger bike isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.

Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy, playful” feel will might downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.

If you have sizing questions on the Ripmo AF UDH work with our team. They will help you understand how your size, riding style, terrain and aspirations will effect your choice.

Stock Fork: Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil, 160mm

Ibis Ripmo AF Fork Travel Options

160mm Ibis Ripmo AF

The Ripmo AF is spec’d with a 160mm Marzocchi Bomber. This provides the bike with it’s stock 64.9 degree headtube angle and 341mm bottom bracket height.

Riders looking for a little more aggressive setup may investigate the 170mm option.

170mm Ibis Ripmo AF

Perhaps more than the additional 6% of travel the 10mm adds are the geometry modifications. Raising the front of the Ripmo AF will slacken the headtube, increase the trail measurement and slightly lift the bottom bracket.

These are popular shifts for riders attacking the steepest, burliest terrain.

Marzocchi Z1 Bomber Coil Medium Firm Extra Firm Coil Springs

Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil 160mm, 44mm offset, 29”, 110×15

The Marzocchi Z1 is a great option spec’d on the current Ibis Ripmo AF – this is a robust fork with the proven GRIP damper minimizing both issues and downtime. The coil spring and pre-load options give riders a range of adjustability based on weight and BikeCo.com has the right springs to get you setup whether you’re looking for the Medium (factory supplied), Firm or Extra Firm spring rate.

Marzocchi Z1 Spring Rate Chart with Rebound Settings

Coil Spring

For the 160mm travel Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil suggested sag is 15% for a firm feel and 20% for a plush fork. On the stock 160mm setup 15% equals 24mm or about 1 inch of sag. 20% will use 32mm or about 1.3″ of sag. Sag and progression can be adjusted with Preload.

BikeCo provides out clients the correct spring based on weight. (Ibis ships with a Medium spring)

Stock Rear Shock: Marzocchi Bomber Air

Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock

Air Spring & Volume Spacers

The Ibis Ripmo AF uses a 210 x 55mm shock.

The spec’d Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock is the most popular based on its wide variety of setup options.

SAG is adjusted by PSI – typically Enduro riding styles gravitate to 25-30% sag. This would measure about 17mm for a plush setup.

Volume Spacers

Volume spacing provides fine tuning options to support the air spring.

By adding volume spacers, thus reducing the volume, you increase the air spring’s ramp rate for improved bottom out support and pop.

Conversely removing volume spacers produces a more linear feel as the air has more volume during shock compression per mm of travel.

Do not install more volume spacers than the Marzocchi advises. Installing more than the maximum volume spacers will result in  product damage and potential for injuries, etc.

More about Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock Volume Spacing can be found here (link opens in new tab)

Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock Rebound Adjustment

Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock Rebound Controls

The Marzocchi Bomber Air shock offers 10 clicks of rebound adjustment.

This allows riders to control the rate of return from a compressed state. Ideally, rebound is set fast enough that the fork returns to a neutral position before the next obstacle, without being so fast as to lose traction or feel like a pogo stick!

Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock 2 position compression Adjustment

Marzocchi Bomber Air Shock Compression Controls

From Marzocchi’s Site the Bomber’s Compression control offers unique features:

2-position, non-indexed compression sweep adjust means you can set it and forget it

Innovative tunable sweep to adjust the stop to a narrower window

Ibis Ripmo AF: Air vs. Coil

Debating air versus coil on your new Ibis Ripmo AF?  Let’s look at the differences in the spring concepts.

Coil Ripmo AF

Generally coil shocks are sought after for being more plush on the initial stroke and more linear through the travel. “Linear” means less progressive, or less able to resist bottom out. Now, some of this can be tuned with compression settings on the damper, however, it will never have the same progressive feel as an air shock.

Getting the right coil for you usage is critical for the best performance. Typically riders will purchase two of the less expensive coil springs and decide if they prefer the softer spring with more preload spun into the spring or if the “heavier” spring with less preload is their preference. There is actual a difference in progressiveness with these two approaches while maintaining a cross over sag spring rate. In short, if you’re looking at coils and not 100% sure what you need chat with our team – and save on that titanium ultra light spring while you fine tune with the cheaper steel options!

Air Ripmo AF

Air shocks are mechanically more progressive in nature thanks to the properties of compressing air. Riders who want less ramp rate, or less progressive suspension can remove volume spacers thus increasing the air volume. Adding volume spacers diminishes the volume available to compress which leads to the PSI increasing at each mm of travel – increasing the ramp rate or progression of the suspension.

Most riders will gravitate to the air spring option for the range of adjustability.

Questions? No problem. Chat with our team and we’ll help you dial in your dream build.

Lower ZS56 – Zero Stack, Press Fit
Ibis Ripmo V2S Frame Headtube Details

Ripmo Headset Details

The Ripmo uses a press fit, zero stack combo: ZS44 upper and ZS56 lower.

Many home builders will have BikeCo press a the headset prior to shipment.

As carbon fiber frames don’t like to have press fit components driven in and out it’s also a popular place to use a top quality component. We suggest Cane Creek 110 or Chris King headsets. With proper service these should last the lifetime of your Ripmo frame.

Can I Use an Angleset Headset? There would be extremely few conditions that we would use an angleset. Riders looking for a slacker, more aggressive Ripmo are better suited increasing the fork travel to 170mm. This keeps the steer tube concentric in the carbon fiber headset as designed while it will slacken the headtube and slightly increase the bottom bracket – both great for riding bigger, burlier terrain. Slackening the bike with a 160mm fork will actually lower the BB – counter intuitive to the slacker headtube.

Ripmo Suspension Details

The Ripmo Frame features the FOX Factory X2 shock. This shock offers riders a tremendous tuning range. Featuring high and low speed adjustments to both Rebound and Compression as well as volume spacing options the X2 can be dialed in for nearly any rider.

Ripmo Suspension Upgrade

Maybe you want a little more aggressive Ripmo? You’re the rider who should talk to us about a 170mm fork option.

The additional travel increases the axle to crown which modifies the geo. Geo shifts include a slightly slacker headtube angle, increased trail measurement, and taller bottom bracket height.

Ripmo Frame Bottom Bracket & Chainline Details

The Ibis Ripmo Frame utilizes a threaded 73mm BSA bottom bracket. Depending on your crank selection there are a variety of bottom brackets available.

Many home-builders have us install the bottom bracket prior to shipping the frame.

Chris King is a popular bottom bracket for Ibis bikes. A range of adapters allows both SRAM and Shimano specs to be used.

Ibis Ripmo V2S Chainline

The current Ripmo chainline, or the Ripmo VS2, is a 55mm chainline to be compatible with the SRAM UDH derailleur hanger.

Previously the Ripmo used a narrower width chainline – but the narrower crank spec places the chainring closer to the triangle and negatively impacts shifting.

Wondering if you have the right cranks for the project? Chat with our team, or even better – order your cranks through BikeCo and we will ensure you get the right setup for the new chainline standard.

The Ripmo features a 180mm post mount rear brake. With an adapter the maximum rotor size is 203mm.

The derailleur hanger is SRAM UDH. This requires a 55mm chainline crank. The Ripmo is SRAM Transmission compatible.

Available in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large the Ibis Ripmo has nearly every rider covered. The Ripmo Medium and Large frames have dimensions like the wheelbase, reach and standover closer than comparing the S to M or L to XL.

The stock 160mm fork produces a 64.9 degree headtube angle with a 341mm bottom bracket. Riders looking for a little more may gravitate to the 170mm fork option for a slightly slacker headtube and increased trail measurement.

The Ripmo fit is dependent on rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders with notably longer or short legs may up or down size. If you find yourself between sizes chat with our team about fit details. We can help you define which size will give you a more confident fit and feel for your riding terrain and style.

XX Transmission Drivetrain Details

Go all in with the ultimate drivetrain. The Ibis Ripmo XX Transmission features the lightest, most technically advanced variants in the T-Type drivetrain family.

The T-Type drivetrains have been redesigned to provide riders the ultimate in strength and service life. Add the ease of self-adjustment through the wireless shifting system and you’ve got a drivetrain head and shoulders above anything else.

If you’re shopping wireless shifting, or looking for an easier way to keep your bike shifting perfect the SRAM Transmission systems are on your short list.

The XX Transmission derailleur is designed to tuck up more protected than a standard cable driven derailleur. This makes derailleur strikes less likely. However, if you should damage the Transmission derailleur you’ll be happy to know it is designed with user replaceable bash plates, sold individually, so you’ll be back on the trail in no time.

Ibis Ripmo V2S XX AXS Transmission Kit Wheel and Tire Detail

XX Transmission Wheel and Tire Details

The XX Transmission build features the best wheels in the Ibis Factory lineup. Ibis carbon rims are laced to i9 Hydra hubs.

But why stop there? We often see riders swap or upgrade these wheels for a variety of other options (or colors to accent the bike)!

The stock Ibis wheels have 35mm internal rims. With wider rim internals tires mount with greater volume allowing for lower PSI to be used. The wider rim pushes the sidewalls “out” which shapes the tread “higher” on the tire’s circumference. The lower PSI gives this setup more grip, however, riders comfortable with deep lean angles may find they can out reach the cornering lugs.

These riders prefer slightly narrower rims. With narrower rims tire volume decreases. This will require a slightly higher PSI, however, the narrower rims shift the cornering knobs position. With a narrower rim and lower volume (from the tighter radius) the cornering lugs have grip at greater lean angles.

One isn’t “right or wrong” – but riders tend to have a preference. Looking for a narrower option? We have you covered.

We handbuild wheels using hubs from industry leaders like Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor.

Our wheels are built using a range of the best rims in MTB. Prefer aluminum rims like the WTB, RideFast or Factor? Or are you shopping the improved power transfer and tracking of carbon like NOX or Ibis Carbon rims?

At BikeCo.com our expert wheel builders have you covered. Carbon or aluminum. Medium or high volume. We know what wheel will compliment your riding.

The Maxxis Assegai 2.5″ EXO Plus front and rear is a burly tire combo. The Ripmo is a bike at home in burly terrain so the tire spec make sense. However, some riders may prefer faster rolling option like the Minion DHF front or a DHR II or Aggressor rear. Depending on riding style and size we see everything from EXO, EXO Plus to Double Down tires spec’d on Ripmos.

Have a favorite tire combo? Let’s get you dialed in.

XX Transmission Cockpit & Brakes Details

Many riders shopping the Ripmo XX Transmission complete have developed a particular setup taste. Maybe you have a preferred grip / bar / stem? Let’s dial you in and get it on the bike at time of purchase.

What is the most common cockpit upgrade or swap? We setup many riders to 35mm options. BikeCo has the best in 35mm diameter carbon handlebars. Bars from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and RaceFace are popular.

All of these bars are available in a selection of rises to fine tune your fit. Taller riders will see greater rise to get their hands in a proper location. If your bars sit too low the bike will want to “suck” under you in the steeps. Too high and you’ll lose some front end traction. Just right is, well, just right!

Different bars have varying levels of designed compliance. This can be particularly important if you’re trimming your bars down. As you trim the bar you’ll change the leverage ratio. So, if you’re trimming a bar down notably you don’t want to start with an overly stiff bar or you’ll have a teeth rattler!

Spec’ing a bar right for your weight and riding style goes a long way to improving your trail experience. Chat with our team for details on handlebar setup differences for your MTB.

Just like handlebars your MTB Brakes are critical to your bikes personality. Getting the right brake for your riding style will improve your trail experience.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripmo XX Transmission

BikeCo provides the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

Riders looking for great power with snappy performance gravitate to Shimano SLX, XT and XTR brakes.

TRP offers even a little more power with slightly improved modulation compared to Shimano.

With the Tech 4 Hope has increased their total power in-line with Shimano and Magura without compromising their amazing modulation.

FOX Factory forks and shocks not only feature the most sophisticated FOX dampers but also include the iconic Kashima Coat.

Both fork and shock feature high and low speed compression as well as high and low speed rebound settings. This means the FOX 38 GRIP2 fork as well as the FOX Factory X2 have the ultimate available adjustments for the widest range of riders.

Ripmo Suspension Upgrade

Looking for just a bit more “thump” in your Ripmo? Why not look into the 170mm fork option?

The additional travel increases the axle to crown which modifies the geo. Geo shifts include a slightly slacker headtube angle, increased trail measurement, and taller bottom bracket height.

Chat with our team about riding styles and terrain conditions that benefit the 170mm fork on an Ibis Ripmo!

SRAM’s new T-Type wireless drivetrain is an obvious highlight to the Ripmo GX Transmission build.

Along with the ease of setup and tuning the new SRAM Transmission has other notable advantages. Notably the T-Type drivetrain is longer lasting and stronger than anything previously on the market.

If you’re shopping wireless shifting, or looking for an easier way to keep your bike shifting perfect the SRAM Transmission systems are on your short list.

The GX Transmission components tend to be slightly heavier with less exotic materials compared to the X01 and XX Transmission kits.

GX Transmission Wheel and Tire Details

The Ripmo GX Transmission build is spec’d with the popular Blackbird Send alloy rims laced to Ibis logo hubs. This is a great set of wheels for riders who appreciate the 35mm internal rim width and the additional tire volume that comes with it.

Some riders may prefer slightly narrower rims. Narrower rims decrease the overall tire volume which will require a slightly higher PSI. However, the narrower rims will modify the tire’s mounted shape giving it more grip deeper into your cornering.

GX Transmission Cockpit & Brakes Details

The Ripmo GX Transmission features Ibis HiFi carbon handlebar paired with an Industry Nine A318 stem. Given the differences in rider size and style it is common to see upgrades or swaps here for fit.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripmo GX Transmission

BikeCo provides the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

Riders looking for great power with snappy performance gravitate to Shimano SLX, XT and XTR brakes.

TRP offers even a little more power with slightly improved modulation compared to Shimano.

With the Tech 4 Hope has increased their total power in-line with Shimano and Magura without compromising their amazing modulation.

SRAM NX cranks definitely get the job done.  A common upgrade is to jump to the GX or other aluminum cranks.

Some riders update to the SRAM GX AXS wireless derailleur and shifter. With the release of the GX AXS Transmission Ripmo the AXS upgrade is less common on this build spec.

GX Wheel and Tire Details

A popular high-volume option Ibis’ Blackbird Send rims laced to Ibis Logo hubs are a great option for this build.

If you’re looking for something a bit different more robust hub systems such as Chris King, Industry Nine or Onyx are popular. Consider whether you’ll prefer aluminum rims like the WTB, RideFast or Factor or whether the improved power transfer and tracking of carbon like NOX or Ibis Carbon suit your riding.

A common area clients  personalize is the cockpit and brakes spec.

Maybe there is a grip / bar / stem combo you like? No sweat, we can get your bike perfect for you.

Riders often will update to a 35mm diameter cockpit with alloy bars from Renthal or Tag. Another very popular option is to go to 35mm diameter carbon handlebars. We work with OneUp, Tag, Renthal and RaceFace. These bars are available in a variety of rises to fine tune your fit. Bars also have various levels of compliance and getting a bar right for your weight and riding style goes a long way to improving your trail experience.

With so much personality dependent on your brake selection its’ no wonder we see SO many spec changes here.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades to the Ibis Ripmo GX

We offer the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

Ibis Ripmo geometry details as well as comparisons with other class leading Enduro bikes are on these tabs.

Ibis Top Tier Carbon & FOX Factory Suspension

Across the entire Ripmo V2S build lineup Ibis features their best carbon fiber and Factory suspension.

One of the things that sets Ibis apart from other brands is their singular use of a top tier carbon fiber across their entire carbon lineup. This carbon is vibrant and proven in the harshest riding conditions on the EWS circuit. Top tier carbon will retain a more vibrant feel longer into its service life.

The FOX Factory suspension is more than the slippery Kashima coat – Factory Suspension also features the top of the line dampers for the widest range of adjustment.

Ibis Ripmo Kit Differences

The Ripmo is offered in two Shimano kit as well as three SRAM specs.

Shimano SLX and XT Kits

The SLX will have similar performance to the XT although XT components are lighter. The remainder of the builds is similar, however the XT features an upgraded cockpit spec.

Ripmo XT builds feature the HiFi 800mm carbon bar and 31.8mm diameter Industy Nine A318 stem. The SLX option is spec’d with an aluminum bar and Ibis 31.8mm diameter stem.

SRAM GX, GX Transmission and XX Transmission

Ibis produces a great value with the Ripmo GX kits. A very rideable cost-conscious option this is a bike you can order and enjoy without “needing” any upgrades. This is notable particularly with the top tier FOX Factory suspension and highest quality carbon fiber frame. Many manufacturers will cut corners on these two key items on entry level bikes. Ibis knows that you want your GX Ripmo to be as much a Ripmo as any of them so spec’s the best in these critical areas.

Wireless shifting options are available in both the GX AXS Transmission as well as the XX AXS Transmission kits.

Both AXS Transmission spec’s take advantage of the new T-Type drivetrain. These are the strongest and longest lasting on the market. Your Transmission build will require less replacement over the life of your Ripmo!

SRAM Transmission also sets a new bar for auto setup and tuning options. Chat with our team about more advantages of the Transmission spec.

Differences between the GX Transmission and XX Transmission Builds

Riders will find the XX Transmission bits are slightly lighter and at times made of more exotic materials. The two main spec difference in the kits are wheels and seatposts.

The GX Transmission offers riders Ibis Aluminum Blackbird Send rims laced to Ibis hubs. (Although many riders take advantage of factory option upgrading to the Ibis Carbon wheelset with i9 hubs) GX Transmission builds also feature the Bike Yoke Revive Seatpost.

XX Transmission builds are spec’d with the Ibis Carbon rims laced to i9 Hydra hubs. Also the XX Transmission build specs the wireless SRAM Reverb AXS Seatpost.

Common Ibis Ripmo Upgrades and Part Swaps.

Ibis Ripmo Upgrades and Swaps

At BikeCo we love offering riders the ability to fine tune or dial in that perfect spec. Whether you’re looking for some minor swaps or want to dial in a full custom Ibis Ripmo we are your resource.

Ibis produces great kits “out of the box”. There really aren’t any “no-go” parts spec’d on the GX, SLX, XT, GX Transmission or XX Transmission Ripmo bikes. That said, it’s common for riders to develop preferences. We can take care of getting you that perfect part in the right color to personalize the Ripmo’s performance or look.

Common Ripmo Upgrades

Let’s go through areas that we commonly see riders update a bike purchase. Some of these are personal preference, others are budget or performance choices. Questions? Chat, email or call our expert sales staff and we will help you buy the perfect Ibis Ripmo.

Enduro, Bigger Enduro or Even Trail!

The Ripmo has a wide range of personality – even wider if you shift the suspension spec. Some riders will prefer the bigger capacity and slacker headtube angle of a 170mm fork option. That’s great. But what if you’re on the opposite side? Maybe you’re looking for a bike a bit bigger than the Ripley – a Ripmo with a trail personality? That’s a solid option since the Ripmo pedals so well. Riders looking for that trail feel from their Ripmo tend to gravitate to the FOX 36 fork, especially with the release of the new FOX 36 GRIP X option. Pair that with a FOX Float X rear shock on the Ripmo and you have a bike with higher travel and poppier suspension. Perfect for a lot of trail riding! Chat with our team about how to get your new bike dialed for your riding specifics today.

Rider Contact Points

Do you have a preferred grip and pedal go-to?

We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your EnduroCell or Bruce Banner Ripmo as well.

Similarly many riders purchasing a new bike find it a good time to refresh their pedals. We have the best clipless and flat options for a wide range of riding styles.

Tires

Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

Looking for rim protection? We have that covered too.

Custom Wheels

Handbuilt or custom wheels are another popular upgrade no matter what brand you’re shopping. Custom wheels allow riders to spec a rim, spoke and hub combination as well as build specifics for the ultimate performance.

Custom wheels for Ibis builds usually feature slightly narrower rim options. This will decrease the volume slightly as well as shifting the tire’s shape to provide more grip in high lean cornering. We see many riders work with NOX carbon or WTB, Factor and RideFast alloy options.

Riders also will find traction from using the right spokes and build techniques. Our team will help you define this at time of purchase to ensure you maximize performance and longevity.

Popular hubs from Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor are spec’d on Ibis Ripmo builds. All of these hubs are available in a range of colors to highlight your build.

Wireless Shifting

While the XX AXS and GX AXS kit feature the new SRAM Transmission the GX and even the SLX and XT are popular options for the standard AXS upgrade. Equally popular are the GX or X01 AXS kits for this purpose.

Chat with our team about mating the GX AXS with Shimano Drivetrains.

Pro Tune Suspension

Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our proprietary Pro Tune Suspension. Our team will custom tune your FOX fork and rear shock and narrow the performance from the FOX Factory range to a more precise setup designed for your riding style, aggression, ground speed, size and terrain.

This is one of the biggest upgrades to any bike – having the suspension dialed in as well as having a resource like BikeCo to help you fine tune the bike at time of delivery and as your riding speeds increase!

BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension – because Every Click Counts.

Ripmo Suspension Details

The FOX Factory Suspension is spec’d on all of the Ibis Ripmo builds.

FOX Factory forks and shocks not only feature the premium Kashima Coat but more importantly they provide riders with the more sophisticated dampers.

Both the FOX 38 GRIP2 fork as well as the FOX Factory X2 feature high and low speed compression as well as high and low speed rebound settings.

Ripmo Suspension Upgrade

The two upgrades we frequently see on the Ibis Ripmo Complete are BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension service as well as updating to a 170mm air shaft.

Increasing the travel gives the bike some geo changes popular when really attacking the trail. These include a slightly slacker headtube angle, increased trail measurement, and taller bottom bracket height.

Chat with our team about riding styles and terrain conditions that benefit the 170mm fork on an Ibis Ripmo!

Ibis Ripmo Geometry

With frames in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large the Ripmo has a size for nearly every MTB rider. The provided options for riders from 5′ to 6′ 5″.

Use the tabs below for more info on the Ripmo Geo, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the Ripmo measures up against other Enduro MTB bikes on the Comparison tab.

Like other Ibis bikes the Ripmo is sized based rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will determine the better size based typically on inseam, flexibility and riding style.

Those with longer legs tend to upsize to improve riding position. This will increase the wheelbase and produce a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.

Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel will tend to downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.

Ripmo riders will notice the Medium and Large have a smaller difference between wheelbase, reach and standover compared to the S to M or L to XL sizing.

Riders looking for slightly more relaxed headtube, increased trail measurement and a small boost to bottom bracket height should ask about a 170mm fork on the Ibis Ripmo!

If you have sizing questions on the Ripmo work with our sales team. They will help you better understand how size, riding style, terrain and riding aspirations will effect your choice.

A suspension setup guide is provided and our team will begin working with you to ensure as your riding develops with your new bike suspension settings, cockpit setup, tire pressures, etc are addressed to keep you progressing.

Since we build every bike we can also offer part swaps and upgrades our competition simply cannot!

Looking for different tires? Brakes? Cockpit or Seating? Not a problem. Our team is happy to help you. Chat with our sales team about during and after purchase incentives on riding gear and accessories as well!

Your new bike typically will arrive with an absolute minimum of work required to get you on the trails. Usually this involves installing the handlebars, adjusting the headset and mounting the front and rear wheel. It’s that easy – and if you have questions you have access to the sales team and a variety of videos from BikeCo.com to help you.

Questions? No problem. Hit us up.
