Yeti SB140 Geometry

The Yeti SB140 is available in five sizes: Small, Medium, Large, X-Large and XX-Large. There is a SB140 available for nearly every rider.

Use the tabs below for more info on the SB140 Geo, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the SB140 measures up against other Trail to Enduro MTB bikes on the Comparison tab.

Like other Yeti bikes the SB140 is sized from rider height, flexibility, application, as well as leg and arm length. Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will determine the better size based typically on inseam, flexibility and riding style.

Those with longer legs tend to upsize to improve riding position. This will increase the wheelbase and produce a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity. Going to a larger size will produce a ride that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.

Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel will tend to downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.

Use the tabs to compare SB140 sizes as well as other against other enduro MTB geo.

Compare Yeti SB140 29er Build Kits

What are the main differences? How about common swaps and upgrades? Let’s get into the details to compare SB140 kits.

SB140 vs SB140 Lunch Ride

First you’ll want to narrow down which Yeti SB140 is right for you. So here are some basic differences between the bikes.

Fork Travel

The Lunch Ride is spec’d with a 160mm fork compared to the standard SB140’s 150mm fork. This produces a personality difference through both the 6% longer travel as well as the geometry shifts. FOX forks can have air shafts changed so you can start with either 150 or 160 and swap down the line if your preference changes.

Geo Differences

The Lunch Ride has a 65 degree headtube angle, 77 degree effective seat tube and an estimated 342mm bottom bracket height.
A Standard SB140 is slightly steeper with a 65.4 degree headtube angle, 77.5 degree seattube angle and 3mm lower bottom bracket at 339mm.

Rear Shock

Since geo shifts are based on the fork and the fork travel can be relatively easily swapped the rear shock is really where the heart of the difference is on these bikes.

The standard SB140 is spec’d with the FOX DPS single canister rear shock. This shock is very popular with really light riders as its tuning range is more forgiving particularly on small bump compliance for smaller riders. Riders looking for the lightest, “poppiest” build will look at the DPS (although, these riders should also consider the SB120 at length as well).

On the SB140 Lunch Ride riders find the FOX Float X piggyback shock. This is a more robust shock with better resistance to heat saturation and more tuning options for support in burly terrain. Few riders would notice the extra weight of this shock making the Lunch Ride even with a 150mm fork a popular option.

T Series verus C Series: TURQ Carbon vs Carbon Frames

Yeti specs TURQ Carbon frames for T series builds and Carbon series for C spec kits.

TURQ Carbon layups are slightly lighter than their Carbon counterparts, but most notably the TURQ Carbon frames are a bit more vibrant and stay that way longer into their service lives.

Heavier riders will really want to pay attention to frame selection. The additional stresses from a larger rider are easier for the more robust TURQ carbon layup to handle.

Lighter riders may still prefer the increased vibrance of the TURQ Carbon frames, but are less likely to see shorter service intervals as heavier riders may.

Yeti SB140 Kit Differences

The SB140 is available in a full range of Yeti build kits. T-Series builds include the T4 XX Transmission, T3 X0 Transmission and T2 builds. Carbon series bikes are the C3 GX Transmission as well as the C2 kits.

Let’s highlight the differences between Yeti’s factory builds then jump over to the Common Upgrades and Swaps tab for more details on how you may want to modify your new bike to dial in it’s performance.

FOX Factory or Performance Suspension

Yeti spec’s the T-Series Lunch Ride builds with a FOX Factory 36 GRIP2 with 160mm travel as well as the FOX Factory Float X rear shock. For T-Series SB140 bikes a FOX Factory FIT4 fork at 150mm as well as a FOX Factory DPS shock are used.

The SB140 Lunch Ride C-Series bikes feature the FOX Performance 36 GRIP fork at 160mm and the Performance Float X rear shock. The standard SB140 C-Series builds utilize the Performance 36 GRIP fork at 150mm and a FOX Performance DPS rear shock.

With FOX Factory suspension riders have the ultimate suspension damper design at their fingertips. On both the GRIP2 riders have easy adjustments for high and low speed rebound as well as high and low speed compression. These improved controls are great for dialing in support for aggressive riding. Both the Factory Float X and Factory DPS provide low speed compression controls not found on the Performance models.

The C-Series bikes feature Performance suspension. Performance suspension is adjustable with PSI, Volume Spacing, Rebound and Compression depending on the exact spec.

Check out the Common Upgrades section for details on Pro Tune Suspension and Performance Upgrades.

Transmission versus Cable Driven Build Kit

Yeti SB140 TURQ series bikes are available in wireless SRAM T-Type Transmission kits as well as a cable driven X01 bike.

The most popular Transmission bike is the X0 spec. It is designed to be slightly more robust for aggressive riding – a nice feature if you plan to find you SB140 Lunch Ride’s limits.

The T4 XX Transmission build parallels pretty close to the other T-Series bikes outside the drivetain spec. A Cane Creek 110 headset and FOX Factory Transfer seatpost are the notable differences.

C2 versus C3 GX Transmission

For the SB140 Carbon series bikes the major difference is the cable driven GX drivetrain on the C2 build compared to the C3 with it’s GX Transmission T-Type spec for wireless shifting.

Keep reading about common swaps and upgrades to the SB140 builds on the next tab.

Yeti SB140 Common Upgrades and Part Swaps

Yeti SB140 Upgrades and Swaps

The right spec takes your bike’s trail personality from “pretty good” to “this is insane”. BikeCo is here to ensure you get the right parts, right at delivery. Small swaps and upgrades are common for every mountain bike. Let’s glance at some of the more popular Yeti SB140 Upgrades and Part Swaps.

Yeti’s current spec gives a range of price points for the SB140. And, there are few components on the SB140 builds would be considered “no-go”. From the C2 all the way to the T4 XX Transmission builds there is a lot of value for your dollar in the Yeti build.

Riders develop spec preferences, particularly on contact points, brakes, wheels or suspension. Whether it’s a performance swap or upgrade or getting you that perfect part in the right color to personalize the SB140’s performance or look we have you covered.

Common SB140 Upgrades

These are areas we commonly see riders update a bike purchase. Some swaps and upgrades are personal preference, others are budget or performance choices. Questions? Chat, email or call our expert sales staff and we will help you dial in your perfect Yeti SB140 or SB140 Lunch Ride.

Rider Contact Points

Do you have a preferred grip and pedal go-to?

We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your Raw Carbon, Sage, Sangria or Turquoise SB140 as well.

A lot of riders purchasing a new bike find it a good time to refresh their pedals. We have the best clipless and flat options for a wide range of riding styles at unbeatable prices.

Tires

Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

Both the SB140 and SB140 Lunch Ride are spec’d with a Maxxis Minion DHF EXO front tire.

It’s not unusual to see this swapped an EXO Plus, or even a Double Down for the SB140 Lunch Ride. Other riders will prefer a more aggressive front tire like the Maxxis Assegai also in an EXO Plus or Double Down.

Yeti’s SB140 builds feature a Maxxis Aggressor EXO rear tire. Like the front tire we often see this swapped to a more robust sidewall to help with small bump compliance. Some riders may swap to the Minion DHF or Minion DHR II for a bit more traction than the Aggressor tread pattern.

On the Yeti SB140 Lunch Ride a Minion DHR II EXO tire is spec’d. As mentioned both EXO Plus and Double Down are common swaps here. Other riders may prefer a faster rolling tire and move to an Aggressor tread pattern. Some will go with more grip than the DHR II with an Assegai depending on terrain.

It really comes down to what you like and where you’re using it. Questions on what tires are right for your riding style and locale? No problem – chat with our team about swapping to tires perfect for you on your new MTB.

Thinking about rim protection? We have that covered too. We often see riders use combinations of CushCore PRO and CushCore XC or even a single rim protection strip (usually on the rear tire). Questions? Let us know!

Cockpit

Along with Brakes, Cockpit is the most common place we see part swaps and upgrades. Since fit is so important to your bike it’s not surprising that you’ll want to work with a resource that has more than 1 option!

Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. As you trim your bars they will get stiffer due to the decreased lever arm – so if you’ve got narrower shoulders you’ll likely want to start with a narrower bar rather than cutting tons off. Similarly getting the right bar rise will help your setup. Ideally you want your hands in a power position. Too low and the bike will try to pull “under” and out in steep chutes. Too tall and you’ll lose front end grip. While some of this is adapted with headset spacers the preference for performance and looks is generally to have 15-30mm of spacers and get the rest of the rise from the handlebar.

Looking for suggestions? Chat with our team about hand positioning and the advantages of getting the right handlebar rise on your new rig. We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.

Headset

Many riders will update the Cane Creek 40 to a Cane Creek 110 or Chris King headset that will last the service life of the frame. Chris King riders can choose from a range of colors as well.

Brakes

This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.

Most riders will update brakes on the Yeti SB140. Updating with BikeCo means we will credit you for the SRAM brakes and get your preferred stoppers on your new bike.

Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.

TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.

Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.

The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.

Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.

Custom Wheels

Handbuilt or custom wheels are another popular upgrade no matter what brand you’re shopping. Custom wheels allow riders to spec a rim, spoke and hub combination as well as build specifics for the ultimate performance.

Custom wheels for Ibis builds usually feature slightly narrower rim options. This will decrease the volume slightly as well as shifting the tire’s shape to provide more grip in high lean cornering. We see many riders work with NOX carbon or WTB, Factor and RideFast alloy options.

Riders also will find traction from using the right spokes and build techniques. Our team will help you define this at time of purchase to ensure you maximize performance and longevity.

Popular hubs from Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor are spec’d on Yeti SB140 builds. All of these hubs are available in a range of colors to highlight your build.

Pro Tune Suspension

Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our proprietary Pro Tune Suspension. Our team will custom tune your FOX fork and rear shock and narrow the performance from the FOX Factory range to a more precise setup designed for your riding style, aggression, ground speed, size and terrain.

This is one of the biggest upgrades to any bike – having the suspension dialed in as well as having a resource like BikeCo to help you fine tune the bike at time of delivery and as your riding speeds increase!

BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension – because Every Click Counts.

Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride – All You Can Eat!

Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride Custom

So, the 160mm fork and extended travel rear shock, about 137mm of total travel, on the SB130 make it a lunch ride. But what happens when you take that Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride suspension to the next level with a FOX 38 and FOX Float X2? Well its ready for the all day, sit in the restaurant till they kick you out all you care to eat Lunch Ride right?

SRAM AXS with XX1 Copper Chain

This X01 AXS kit is set off with an XX1 Copper Chain and a hint of accent color with the OneUp Chain Guide & Bash.

The orange upper guide helps with chain retention in rough terrain, or when you time backwards in corners, etc. You can see how the black bash guide sits slightly lower than the chain ring providing protection from rocks and logs you might come across.

Many riders think that the bash guide is only for riders really riding the super gnarly stuff, but, from my experience I’m much more likely to smack my chain ring trying to climb technical stuff.

Magua MT7 brakes, HC Rotor and i9 Hubs laced to WTB rims

So, let’s get it straight: Custom is still a thing! But, you might have to wait a bit for your dream parts.

We’re seeing a lot of riders take advantage of availability to get on trail while waiting for some bits. Example: custom Hope brakes or like Shimano Saint brakes that might have a long ship ETA riders are taking delivery with the stock brakes and then flipping them on the used market once the other bits come in. We’re seeing this with stock wheels too if you’re waiting for that dream King color or whatever.

In this bike’s case i9 has had great turnaround times and the turquoise hubs are a great accent to the orange fork and a nod to the Yeti racing heritage. These are handbuilt wheels by our team laced to WTB rims with DT Swiss Spokes. BikeCo has some of the best wheel builders in MTB and we are able to fine tune your build to your riding style, ground speeds and weight. Adding compliance or stiffness to the build depending on requirements makes a big difference in total traction.

Stopping this beast are 4 piston Magura MT7 HC3 brakes – which BikeCo keeps great stock on and are an easy update to your build!

Chris King Inset in Yeti SB130 Frame

Unlike pressfit headsets Inset options are relatively easy to change (and don’t add stress to the frame’s headtube driving cups in and out).

If your bike has a pressfit headset why not put in a rebuildable Chris King headset that will last the life of the frame?

If your bike, like the Yeti lineup, features Inset headsets the Chris King is still a lifetime headset with some basic maintenance. And available in a variety of colors like this Matte Mango you can accent your bikes’ cockpit with a touch of flare.

My ‘pre’ Lunch Ride – Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride Review

Yeti launched the new SB130 Lunch Ride kit yesterday. But it turns out I’ve been on one for several months now! So now that the cat is out of the bag on the 55mm shock stroke lets take a quick look. Here’s my Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride Review (based on the Lunch Ride Suspension Setup)

Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride Review

Starting at the fork – the 160mm Grip2 option is something we’ve put a lot of clients on already. In fact we have some extended reviews on that aspect of the bike already.

150 vs. 160mm Fork on Yeti SB130 and an extension of that write up comparing headtube, trail, flop etc on the 150 vs 160.

For a quick review on those. Continue reading My ‘pre’ Lunch Ride – Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride Review
