Ibis DV9 Geometry

The DV9 is offered in Small through X-Large and designed for rides from 5′ 0″ to 6′ 5″ in height.

As a bike with a range of appropriate fork setups depending on your riding the proivded Ibis Geo is based on a 120mm travel fork.

If you’re looking for other fork travel options and are wondering about the geo considerations reach out to our team for more info!

Along with height DV9 riders will want to compare sizes based on inseam and arm length as well. Riders on the sizing cusp will reference leg length to help determine the ideal sizing.

Another thing to take into account sizing a hardtail like the DV9 is what your intended use is and will you be able to get your cockpit setup in an ideal position. If you’re building a more playful, confident DV9 you’ll want to keep your stem and bars in a more trail or even enduro type setup. Shorter stem, often with higher rise bars. For a more “racy” build a slightly longer stem with lower bars will likely be a more ideal positioning.

Wondering which bike provides you the best fit? Our expert team is here to help you define how your size, riding style, terrain and aspirations will effect your ideal sizing. Reach out to our team about your Ibis DV9 purchase by chat, email or phone!

DV9 Build Kit Details and Options

With the Deore and SLX factory build options for the DV9 there are many shared bits between these two bikes.

First, what’s the same across all of the kits?

Ibis Top Tier Carbon

One of the things that sets Ibis apart from a lot of brands is their use of a top tier carbon fiber across their entire carbon bike lineup.

Ibis’ carbon is vibrant and proven in the harshest riding conditions on the EWS circuit. Top tier carbon like Ibis utilizes retains a more vibrant feel longer into its service life while minimizing potential frame issues.

FOX Float 34 Performance Fork

Both stock builds feature the FOX Float 34 Performance fork. This fork is spec’d at 120mm travel and features the GRIP damper.

Some riders may prefer different travel settings, 130mm is quite popular and 140mm for those looking for more relaxed geo.

Updating the GRIP damper to the more advanced FOX dampers featuring high and low speed compression is a popular option for the DV9 as well.

Maxxis EXO Tires

Ibis spec’s the DV9 with a 2.4″ DHR2 EXO front tire and a 2.4″ Dissector EO rear. This is an area we frequently see swaps or updates. The most popular tire combos tend to be DHF front with DHR or Aggressor rear tires. Some riders will even add an EXO+ rear tire for additional damping to the bike. If you’re shopping a DV9 get the right tires for your riding – it’s an easy swap at time of purchase and will make a big difference to your bike’s personality.

Ibis 933 Wheels

The DV9 is spec’d with Ibis’ Aluminum rims and Ibis logo hubs. These are robust stock wheels, however, it is an area we will frequently see riders upgrade. Whether its for the Ibis Carbon rims with i9 hubs from the factory, but more often for BikeCo handbuilt wheels utilizing Chris King, i9, or Onyx hubs laced to NOX, Ibis, ENVE, WTB or DT Swiss rims. Our handbuilt wheels take into account your size and riding style to balance rigidity, torque transfer, compliance and grip through spokes, spoke patterns as well as experienced build techniques used with some of the fastest racers in MTB.

Key Ibis DV9 Kit Differences

Apart from the obvious, the Deore bike has Deore bits and the SLX bike has SLX bits there isn’t much difference between these builds.

The SLX bike does have a carbon handlebar – however – many riders will still swap that out for a different carbon bar, typically a 35mm from Renthal, Tag, Raceface, OneUp, etc. On the DV9 Deore build riders find a 31.8mm alloy handlebar. Its common to see the Deore bar upgraded along similar lines as the SLX spec.

The SLX also has a Bike Yoke adjustable seatpost while the Deore spec’s the KS Rage-i. Both of these posts work well, so really the main difference between the two kits is the value each rider sees on the slightly lighter SLX versus Deore.

Over a period of time the SLX derailleur and shifter will maintain a bit more of a crisp, refined feel so many riders shopping the Deore bike end up increasing their budget and working with the SLX spec.

A fair amount of riders want wireless shifting on the DV9 – and as Ibis doesn’t offer the GX AXS Transmission or X0 AXS Transmission kits any longer we often spec custom DV9 builds for these clients.

Common Ibis DV9 Upgrades

Ibis DV9 Upgrades and Swaps

A lot of riders purchasing an Ibis DV9 are building a dream bike of some sort. Whether it’s that “all-in” hardtail or a quiver bike for certain rides the DV9 is a bike we see riders really invest the time to ensure they’ve got a great build right at delivery.

Not all spec changes are upgrades. Many are across the board swaps or relatively minor upgrades when we factor our the stock component from your delivery.

Let’s dive in a little deeper on the common swaps and upgrades to the DV9.

Common DV9 Upgrades

There are a lot of areas we see riders upgrade the stock DV9 builds. Probably the most common are Cockpit and Brakes. Upgrading to Pro Tune Suspension is probably third. We see wheels, tires and cranks as other areas riders tend to focus on.

Suspension

Getting you fork right on a hardtail is critical to the bike’s performance.

One of the upgrades we see to the Deore, GX and SLX DV9 builds, that feature the FOX Performance fork, is an upgrade to the FOX Factory damper. This provides improved high and low speed compression settings for a wider range of tuning. Essentially this makes a Performance Elite fork, with black stanchions and the improved damper.

Some riders will go all in for a Factory Kashima fork as well.

Adding a BikeCo Pro Tune to the DV9 fork is very popular. Our BikeCo Pro Tune forks narrow the performance window of the damper based on specifics of your riding. Essentially each click becomes a more precise tool in your setup.

Wondering how a BikeCo Pro Tune fork will improve your riding? Chat with our team today. Remember, #EveryClickCounts.

Rider Contact Points

Riders typically have a go-to grip and pedal preference.

We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your DV0’s Electric Teal or Silver Linings colorway.

Tires

Another preference riders develop is “must-have” tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

There is a wide range of appropriate tires for the DV9 depending on your terrain and riding style. The DV9 can carry most 2.6″ rear tires, allowing riders to modify the small bump compliance with larger volume tires.

Not all DV9 riders are looking for the DHR2 / Dissector option spec’d by Ibis. Nor are they all stoked on the XC fast Rekon Race option.

Some riders may prefer more trail or even light enduro tire setups. This includes tires like the Aggressor, DHR II, DHF and more. A variety of sidewalls are seen on the DV9 as well depending on rider size and aggression.

Getting the right tires on your bike is critical to it’s performance and your confidence. Wondering what tires best fit your riding? That’s what we’re here for. Let us go through some options that will fit your needs. Tire size. Sidewall options. Tread patterns. Even rim protection are details we love to go through with our clients.

Cockpit

A common swap or upgrade to Ibis Factory Spec bikes are the handlebars and stem. Many riders swap to a 35mm diameter combo over the stock 31.8mm options.

Carbon bars to help improve the hardtail’s small bump compliance.

Getting the fit correct is important to your DV9’s performance. Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. Looking for suggestions? We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.

Chat with our team about hand positioning, carbon versus aluminum as well as advantages of the right handlebar rise on your new rig.

Brakes

This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.

Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.

TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.

Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.

The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.

Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.
