Ibis Ripmo Geometry
With frames in Small, Medium, Extra Medium, Large and Extra Large the Ripmo has a size for nearly every MTB rider. The provided options for riders from 5′ to 6′ 7″.
Click through the tabs below for more info on the Ripmo Geo. Basic sizing concepts, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the Ripmo measures up against other Enduro MTB bikes on the Comparison tab.
Sizing the Ibis Ripmo
While Ibis provides a decent sizing window on their bikes for clients to review the ideal Ripmo size is based almost equally on two factors: rider height as well as leg (inseam) and arm length (wingspan). Other factors to consider are your overall flexibility, your riding style and ground speed.
Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will weigh all of these to determine which of the Ripmo’s 5 sizes is the best fit.
Those with longer legs tend to up-size to improve riding position. Along with allowing improved cockpit and saddle locations a longer wheelbase produces a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller size. Many racers will look to run the longest bike they can manage to take advantage of this ground speed feel.
Riders between sizes with longer torsos, shorter inseams, or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel tend to down-size.
Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may still up-size, so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.
Another geo trick on the Ripmo for those looking for slightly more relaxed headtube, increased trail measurement and a small boost to bottom bracket height is to shop a 170mm fork on the Ibis Ripmo. This setup might not be for everyone and tends to be dependent on ground speed and typical terrain.
If you have sizing questions on the Ripmo work with our sales team. They will help you understand how size, riding style, terrain and riding aspirations to dial in your choice.
Ibis Ripmo Geo Chart
Ibis has added a fifth size to the Ripmo this season. Now available in Small, Medium, Extra Medium, Large and Extra Large there is a great Ripmo sizing option for every rider.
The Small and Medium Ripmo’s are factory spec’d with MX (or mix) wheels. Riders will find a 29″ front wheel paired to a 27.5″ rear. Talk to BikeCo’s sales team if you prefer a standard 29″ Ripmo in Small or Medium. (or, if you prefer an Extra Medium, Large or Extra Large with MX wheels instead of the standard 29″)
Riders will also appreciate that Ibis has incorporated size specific chain stay lengths (S and M share a dimension).
Medium through Extra Large bikes can carry a 26oz water bottle while the Small is designed for a 22oz water bottle.

Let’s dive into the Ripmo Builds: Deore, SLX, XT, GX Transmission and X0 Transmission bikes.
First, what’s the same across all of the kits?
Ibis Top Tier Carbon
One of the things that sets Ibis apart from a lot of brands is their use of a top tier carbon fiber across their entire carbon bike lineup.
Ibis’ carbon is vibrant and proven in the harshest riding conditions on the EWS circuit. Top tier carbon like Ibis utilizes retains a more vibrant feel longer into its service life while minimizing potential frame issues.
FOX Float X Factory Shock
The FOX Factory suspension is more than the slippery Kashima coat. Factory Suspension also features the top of the line dampers for the widest range of adjustment. Read more on the Suspension tab below.
Maxxis EXO+ Tires
Ibis spec’s the Ripmo with a 2.5″ DHF EXO+ front tire and a 2.5″ DHR EXO+ rear. This is an area we frequently see swaps or updates particularly with Assegai front tires or Double Down sidewalls. Keep reading more more details.
Blackbird Send Wheels
The Ripmo is spec’d with Ibis’ Blackbird Send Alloy rims and Ibis logo hubs. These are robust stock wheels, however, it is an area we will frequently see riders upgrade. Whether its for the Ibis Carbon rims with i9 hubs from the factory, but more often for BikeCo handbuilt wheels utilizing Chris King, i9, or Onyx hubs laced to NOX, Ibis, ENVE, WTB or DT Swiss rims. Our handbuilt wheels take into account your size and riding style to balance rigidity, torque transfer, compliance and grip through spokes, spoke patterns as well as experienced build techniques used with some of the fastest racers in MTB.

Ibis Ripmo Kit Differences
This season the Ripmo is offered in three Shimano kit as well as two wireless SRAM AXS Transmission specs.
Ripmo Fork Spec
Probably the most notable difference between the Ripmo kits is the fork spec.
On the Deore and SLX bikes riders find the coil spring Marzocchi Bomber Z1 fork. The Bomber Z1 features a FOX Grip damper. This provides riders with a basic low speed compression control as well as 10 clicks of rebound adjustment.
The three remaining kits, XT, GX AXS Transmission and X0 AXS Transmission are spec’d with the FOX Float 36 GRIPX Factory Series fork. This is an air fork allowing an amazing tuning range with PSI as well as volume spacers. The GRIPX damper offers riders High Speed Compression, Low Speed Compression as well as Low Speed Rebound adjustments.
As mentioned earlier all of the Ripmo builds spec the FOX Float X Factory rear shock. This is an air shock with volume tuning capacity, Low Speed Rebound, 12 clicks of Low Speed Compression as well as a 2 position firm mode, or climb switch.
Shimano Deore, SLX and XT Kits
Obviously as you move up the Shimano lineup you can expect lighter weight and slightly more exotic materials. However, SKU minimization has brought the Shimano kits closer overall with similar cockpits, wheels, tires, etc. The Deore build spec’s a KS Rage-I dropper while the SLX and XT use a Bike Yoke spec.
SRAM GX AXS Transmission and X0 AXS Transmission
Wireless shifting options are available in both the GX AXS Transmission as well as the X0 AXS Transmission kits.
Both AXS Transmission spec’s take advantage of the new T-Type drivetrain. These are the strongest and longest lasting on the market. Your Transmission build will require less replacement over the life of your Ripmo!
SRAM Transmission also sets a new bar for auto setup and tuning options. Chat with our team about more advantages of the Transmission spec.
Like the Shimano builds the SRAM AXS Transmission Ripmos also see a fair amount of kit crossover.
Click the common upgrades tab for more info on part swaps and upgrades – especially popular on cockpit setup, tires and brakes!
Ibis Ripmo Upgrades and Swaps
At BikeCo we love offering riders the ability to fine tune or dial in that perfect spec. Whether you’re looking for some minor swaps or want to dial in a full custom Ibis Ripmo we are your resource.
Ibis produces great kits “out of the box”. There really aren’t any “no-go” parts spec’d on the Deore, SLX, XT, GX Transmission or X0 Transmission Ripmo bikes. That said, it’s common for riders to develop preferences. BikeCo will take care of getting you that perfect part in the right color to personalize the Ripmo’s performance or look.
Common Ripmo Upgrades
Let’s go through common areas we see riders update on a bike purchase. Some of these are personal preference, others are budget or performance choices. Questions? Chat, email or call BikeCo’s expert sales staff and we will help you buy the perfect Ibis Ripmo.
Trail, Enduro, or Bigger Enduro!
The Ripmo has a wide range of personality – even wider if you shift the suspension spec.
On the latest generation of Ripmo Ibis has gone with a relatively trail oriented suspension spec, especially on the XT, GX AXS and X0 AXS bikes. Spec’d with the new FOX Float 36 GRIPX Factory fork as well as the FOX Factory Float X the Ripmo has the acceleration and pop riders will enjoy on a wide range of trail and light enduro trails.
Looking to go a bit bigger? Some riders will prefer the bigger capacity and slacker headtube angle of a 170mm fork option. Maybe a FOX Float 38 GRIPX2 fork with High and Low Speed Compression as well as High and Low Speed Rebound is in order?
The new Ibis Ripmo is also capable of carrying a coil rear shock meaning riders looking for an Enduro trail slayer now have the stock Float X, Float X2 or DHX2 coil options available.
Chat with BikeCo’s team about how to get your new bike dialed for your riding specifics today.
Rider Contact Points
Do you have a preferred grip and pedal go-to?
We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your Swamp Monster or Huckleberry Ripmo as well.
Similarly many riders purchasing a new bike find it a good time to refresh their pedals. We have the best clipless and flat options for a wide range of riding styles.
Tires
Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.
The Ripmo is spec’d with EXO+ tires front and rear. Many riders will swap these for more aggressive treads like an Assegai in the front. Others prefer the added protection and damping of Double Down sidewalls. In any case BikeCo is here to help you dial in that perfect build.
Looking for rim protection? We have that covered too. CushCore XC and PRO are popular in pairs, alone or mixed and matched depending on your preference.
Cockpit
Bars and stems are a very common swap or upgrade to the Ibis Factory Spec. Often a 35mm diameter combination is preferred to the stock 31.8mm options.
Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. Looking for suggestions? We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.
Chat with our team about hand positioning and the advantages of getting the right handlebar rise on your new rig. Our goal is to balance rise, width and layup for your size, weight and riding requirements.
Brakes
This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.
Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.
TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.
Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.
The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.
Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.
Custom Wheels
Handbuilt or custom wheels are another popular upgrade no matter what brand you’re shopping. Custom wheels allow riders to spec a rim, spoke and hub combination as well as build specifics for the ultimate performance.
Custom wheels for Ibis builds usually feature slightly narrower rim options. This will decrease the volume slightly as well as shifting the tire’s shape to provide more grip in high lean cornering. We see many riders work with NOX carbon or WTB, Factor and DT Swis alloy options.
Riders also will find traction from using the right spokes and build techniques. Our team will help you define this at time of purchase to ensure you maximize performance and longevity.
Popular hubs from Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor are spec’d on Ibis Ripmo builds. All of these hubs are available in a range of colors to highlight your build.
Pro Tune Suspension
Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our proprietary Pro Tune Suspension. Our team will custom tune your FOX fork and rear shock and narrow the performance from the FOX Factory range to a more precise setup designed for your riding style, aggression, ground speed, size and terrain.
This is one of the biggest upgrades to any bike – having the suspension dialed in as well as having a resource like BikeCo to help you fine tune the bike at time of delivery and as your riding speeds increase!
BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension – because Every Click Counts.

Ripmo Fork Options
Deore & SLX Builds: Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil
Ibis ships the Deore and SLX bikes with the Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil fork with a medium spring in the Bomber, however, BikeCo.com has you covered. Part of our industry leading setup and service includes installing the right spring for your weight and riding style.
Shown above are the Marzocchi springs typically installed by BikeCo for specific rider weights.
The Medium spring is blue and designed for riders 150-180 lbs.
180-210 lb riders will spec the Green Firm spring.
For larger 210-250 lb riders the Yellow X-Firm spring is utilized.
The Bomber Z1 features a FOX Grip damper. This provides riders with a basic low speed compression control as well as 10 clicks of rebound adjustment.
The rebound adjuster is located at the bottom of the fork lower.
Both the compression as well as the coil spring preload adjustments are located at the top of the fork.
XT, GX AXS & X0 AXS Builds: FOX Float 36 Factory GRIPX
The Ripmo’s XT, GX AXS Transmission and X0 AXS Transmission builds are all shipped with the FOX Float 36 Factory GRIPX fork.
The FOX GRIPX damper offers easy adjustments for High and Low Speed Compression as well as Low Speed Rebound.
Like all FOX air forks it’s spring rate is modified by Air Pressure and Volume Spacers to adjust ramp rate and support.
Ripmo Fork Upgrades
Riders looking to push the Ibis Ripmo to its limit will often review the 170mm travel option as well as the FOX Float 38 GRIPX2 fork. The GRIPX2 provides riders with an additional adjustment of High Speed Rebound as well as the Low Speed Rebound, High and Low Speed Compression found on the GRIPX damper.
Ripmo Rear Shock Options
Stock: FOX Float X Factory Kashima
When you compare Ibis Ripmo builds you’ll see that the same rear shock is spec’d across the entire lineup. The FOX Float X Factory Kashima rear shock provides a great platform from poppy trail riding performance into the more demanding enduro terrain.
The Factory Kashima Float X shock features Low Speed Rebound, a 2 position switch for firm climbing as well as a 12 position Low Speed Compression control.
As with other air shocks the Float X’s performance is setup with air pressure and volume spacers.
Ripmo Shock Upgrades
Riders looking for a more aggressive platform – ie a bike comfortable deeper into big enduro terrain – will often review shock upgrades from the Float X.
The most popular option is the FOX Float X2 damper. This provides additional tuning parameters with High and Low Speed Compression as well as High and Low Speed Rebound. Like the Float X the X2 has variable air pressure and volume spacing options for balancing spring support and ramp rate.
Speaking of springs – the new Ripmo will accommodate FOX coil shocks like the DHX2. So, if you’re really looking for that Ripmo thumper build chat with us about the X2 and DHX2 options for your new Ripmo.

When you buy a bike from BikeCo.com you’re not getting simply a forwarded box.
Our team goes through quality control checks, builds, tunes and provides a base setup for each bike. This allows us a better chance to find the rare mechanical warranty issue, to ensure that the linkage and bearings are properly setup.
A suspension setup guide is provided and our team will begin working with you to ensure as your riding develops with your new bike suspension settings, cockpit setup, tire pressures, etc are addressed to keep you progressing.
Since we build every bike we can also offer part swaps and upgrades our competition simply cannot!
Looking for different tires? Brakes? Cockpit or Seating? Not a problem. Our team is happy to help you. Chat with our sales team about during and after purchase incentives on riding gear and accessories as well!
Your new bike typically will arrive with an absolute minimum of work required to get you on the trails. Usually this involves installing the handlebars, adjusting the headset and mounting the front and rear wheel. It’s that easy – and if you have questions you have access to the sales team and a variety of videos from BikeCo.com to help you.
