The Mondraker Dune lineup is found in the light eMTB offerings. The Dune is a factory designed Mullet with a 29″ front wheel paired to a 27.5″ rear wheel. This gives the bike more capacity in the tight, steep sections on your descents using the smaller rear tire for quick direction changes. At the same time the 29″ front wheel provides more forgiveness with improved roll over and comfortable steering input.
As a light eMTB the Mondraker Dune has an overall more traditional look with a slightly smaller battery and power unit. Each of the Mondraker Dune builds features the BOSCH Performance Line SX Gen4 SMART SYSTEM (20 mph), the BOSCH Kiox 500 display as well as the BOSCH Compact Powertube 400Wh battery.

Riders find a 64 degree headtube angle on the Dune, a half degree slacker than the 64.5 degree headtube angle on the Mondraker Neat. Both the Dune and Neat are slacker than its larger battery cousin the Crafty Carbon or Crafty. The Dune bike is at home in burly trail riding adventures and your enduro attacks, even into slightly bigger all mountain adventures.
Mondraker offers four sizes in the Dune to accommodate riders from around 5’4″ to 6’6″. Scroll down for more info on the Dune’s sizing and geo.

Compare Mondraker Dune Build Kits
Let’s look at the Dune light eMTB builds. Below we compare the Mondraker Dune XR, RR and R bikes.
Shared Highlights of all Dune Kits:
Dune Drive Unit and Battery
This is definitely a highlight of the light eMTB Dune: all three builds feature the BOSCH Performance Line SX Gen4 SMART System, a 20mph motor, with the BOSCH Kiox 500 Display as well as a BOSCH Compact Powertube 400Wh battery.
The BOSCH SMART SYSTEM offerings are the most popular, robust and supported eMTB packages on the market. Want to know more about the Dune’s BOSCH drive system? Chat with our team today for more information on the advantages and comparisons across eMTB drive units.
Tires
To build an aggressive bike you’re going to need aggressive bits right? Mondraker has the Dune covered with a serious all-mountain rubber setup.
The front 29″ tire is the Maxxis Assegai 2.5″ folding Downhill Casing with 3C MaxxGrip compound. On the rear riders find a 27.5″ Maxxis Minion DHR II 2.4 Double Down sidewall with 3C MaxxTerra compound.
Both of these tires will provide good cut and rim protection as well as providing improved small bump compliance – critical if you’re going to be running the Dune’s suspension more firm for added support through fast corners and gnarly chunk.
Some riders may look at faster rolling tire options depending on their terrain and riding style. Most eMTB, even the light eMTB benefit from at least EXO+ or Double Down Sidewalls. This helps provide additional small bump compliance while allowing the suspension compression to be tuned to accommodate the larger weight of the eMTB and riding styles.
Riders may look at the Minion DHF for a front tire that’s slightly faster rolling than the Assegai on the front.
On the rear most riders will find the DHR II fits the terrain however riders looking for maximum grip may go to the Assegai tread pattern.
Debating about sidewalls? What about lighter tires but adding rim protection? Frequently we see riders gravitate to a single cush core or a mix of the cush core pro and xc for additional protection.
No matter what your preference our team is here to get you dialed in.

Mondraker Dune Kit Differences
Let’s take a quick look at the stock Mondraker Dune light eMTB build kits.
Suspension
The Dune RR and Dune XR are spec’d with the Ohlins RXF 29 M.2 fork. On the XR riders find a 180mm travel fork while on the RR Mondraker spec’s a 170mm option. The Dune R build has the FOX 38 Performance GRIP fork at 170mm. (This has some damper upgrades available that we’ll touch on in the Swaps and Upgrades section).
For rear shocks the XR is spec’d with an Ohlins TTX22 M.2 coil shock while the RR has a Ohlins TTX Air and the R features a FOX Performance Float X damper.
Ohlins riders tend to enjoy the compliance of the suspension. Riders looking for a bit more support or resistance to the trail may find swapping to FOX components a benefit on these builds. Keep reading on the swaps and upgrades section for more info.
Cockpit and Brakes
All three kits use 31.8mm diameter cockpit setups. The R features aluminum bars while the RR and XR spec the Onoff Krypton Carbon 800mm bar with 25mm rise.
SRAM brakes are found on all three bikes as well utilizing 200mm rotors.
This is a common area for part swaps and upgrades. Bike personality and fit are both heavily influenced through brakes and cockpit. Read about common upgrades and part swaps on the next tab for more details about the Mondraker cockpit and brake upgrades.
Drivetrain
All three Dune build kits spec SRAM drivetrains. The Neat R utilizes a cable driven 50t SRAM drivetrain. The RR and XR feature SRAM AXS Transmission components. The RR spec’s the GX AXS Transmission while the XR uses the X0 AXS Transmission.
The Dune R and Dune RR spec e13 E*Spec Plus cranks while the XR build spec’s e.13 TRS Race Carbon cranks.

Mondraker Dune Upgrades and Swaps
BikeCo loves offering riders the ability to fine tune or dial in that perfect bike spec. Whether it’s minor swaps or want to dial in a full custom Mondraker Dune light eMTB you’ve found the resource.
Rider’s find a lot of value in the Mondraker builds, but it’s common for riders to develop preferences.
Whether it’s a personality swap or performance upgrade or getting you that perfect part in the right color to personalize the Dune we have you covered.
Common Dune eMTB Upgrades
These are components and themes we commonly see riders update at the time of bike purchase. Some are personal preference, others are budget or performance choices. Questions? Chat, email or call our expert sales staff and we will help you buy the perfect Mondraker Dune eMTB.
Rider Contact Points
Do you have a preferred grip and pedal go-to?
We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your new bike as well.
A lot of riders purchasing a new bike find it a good time to refresh their pedals. We have the best clipless and flat options for a wide range of riding styles at unbeatable prices.
Tires
Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.
As we mentioned earlier the Dune is spec’d with a 29″ Assegai folding Downhill casing tire with 3C MaxxGrip compound in 2.5″. The rear tire is spec’d with the 27.5″ Maxxis Minion DHR II 2.4″ Double Down sidewall with 3C MaxxTerra rubber.
This is a good starting point for a wide range of riders. The Assegai is an aggressive tread pattern and the Downhill casing paired with soft 3C MaxxGrip rubber give the tire maximum small bump compliance. On the rear riders find a fairly aggressive, albeit also relatively fast rolling tire in the Minion DHR II.
Riders looking for maximum performance may change the rear tire for a more aggressive tread pattern, like the Assegai or possibly the Dissector depending on terrain and riding style. Some riders may find a DH compound rear improves small bump compliance allowing them to run the rear shock “taller” with more compression support.
Others may look for a faster rolling front tire, although most won’t look faster than the Minion DHF option. Lighter riders may also consider lighter sidewalls. While this does compromise a bit of small bump compliance the reduced weight can help lighter riders maximize control in fast sections.
There really is A LOT of personal preference on the tire setup. Typically we suggest riders lean towards “more” than “less” tire on a new bike – but if you go too far on the scale your bike is going to feel sluggish with compromised handling.
Wondering what’s best for you? Chat with our team about your size, riding style, aspirations, terrain and ground speeds. We can help you determine which tire window is most likely to give you the most positives with the least compromises.
On the other side of the coin, already know what you’re looking for? Stoked – let us know and we’ll get the right tires on your new bike.
Maybe you’re also thinking about rim protection? We have that covered too. We often see riders use combinations of CushCore PRO and CushCore XC or even a single rim protection strip (usually on the rear tire). Questions? Let us know!
Cockpit
Along with Brakes, Cockpit is the most common place we see part swaps and upgrades. Since fit is so important to your bike it’s not surprising that you’ll want to work with a resource that has more than 1 option!
On eMTB bikes its common to see riders looking for handlebar designs that maximize small bump compliance. The heavier eMTB bikes often utilize more progressive suspension setups for ultimate performance. This means finding small bump compliance elsewhere is important on you aggressive eMTB build.
The most common handlebar for eMTB purchases is the OneUp carbon e-bar. Designed with a unique shape to provide maximum stiffness in a fore/aft load but while offering subtle give in vertical loads.
Another common handlebar spec is the carbon option from TAG Metals which has an ovalized internal design for similar performance benefits.
Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. As you trim your bars they will get stiffer due to the decreased lever arm – so if you’ve got narrower shoulders you’ll likely want to start with a narrower bar rather than cutting tons off. Similarly getting the right bar rise will help your setup. Ideally you want your hands in a power position. Too low and the bike will try to pull “under” and out in steep chutes. Too tall and you’ll lose front end grip. While some of this is adapted with headset spacers the preference for performance and looks is generally to have 15-30mm of spacers and get the rest of the rise from the handlebar.
Looking for suggestions? Chat with our team about hand positioning and the advantages of getting the right handlebar rise on your new rig. We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.
Brakes
This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.
Most riders will update brakes on the Mondraker builds.
Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.
TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.
Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.
The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.
Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.
Custom Wheels
Handbuilt or custom wheels are another popular upgrade no matter what brand you’re shopping. Custom wheels allow riders to spec a rim, spoke and hub combination as well as build specifics for the ultimate performance.
We see many riders work with NOX carbon or WTB, Factor and RideFast alloy options.
Riders also will find traction from using the right spokes and build techniques. Our team will help you define this at time of purchase to ensure you maximize performance and longevity.
Popular hubs from Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor are spec’d on eMTB builds. All of these hubs are available in a range of colors to highlight your build with the strength to handle the extra power from the motor.
Pro Tune Suspension
Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our proprietary Pro Tune Suspension. Our team will custom tune your FOX fork and rear shock and narrow the performance from the FOX Factory range to a more precise setup designed for your riding style, aggression, ground speed, size and terrain.
This is one of the biggest upgrades to any bike – having the suspension dialed in as well as having a resource like BikeCo to help you fine tune the bike at time of delivery and as your riding speeds increase!
BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension – because Every Click Counts.
Dialing in the perfect Mondraker Dune Build
Still have questions? If you’re here to compare Mondraker Dune kits we’d expect you to have questions! Don’t be shy, our team is here to help you define what you need to take your bike build from “this is good” to “man, this is DIALED.”
Mondraker Dune Geometry
With Small, Medium, Large and X-Large sizes the Dune is a light eMTB with fit options for a wide range of riders.
Use the tabs below for more info on the Dune Geo, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the Dune measures up against other Enduro eMTB bikes on the Comparison tab.
eMTB bikes like the Mondraker Dune are sized from rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will determine the better size based typically on inseam, flexibility and riding style.
Those with longer legs tend to upsize to improve riding position. This will increase the wheelbase and produce a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity. Going to a larger size will produce a ride that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.
Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel will tend to downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.
