Compare Ibis Exie Kits at BikeCo.com

Ibis offers the Exie in three cost-conscious options. The Deore, GX and SLX kits provide riders access to this cross country / trail bike without breaking the bank.

Ibis Exie FOX Performance Suspension

Each of the Exie builds features a FOX Float 34 Performance fork as well as a FOX Performance Float DPS rear shock.

The FOX Float 34 Performance is a Step-Cast fork, with 120mm of travel and the GRIP damper. This fork allows tuning via the air spring, volume spacers, low speed rebound as well as a 3 position low speed compression on-the-fly switch.

With the FOX Performance Float DPS rear shock riders tune with air pressure, volume spacers and rebound. The Performance DPS shock also has a climb switch for putting all the power down to attack technical trails.

Along with the Vietnam frame the Performance suspension is another area to save riders money compared to the Exie USA builds.

The main differences between the Performance and Factory suspension are Kashima coated shafts as well as the Factory components have more sophisticated dampers.

Performance suspension riders will compensate with air volume spacing to fine tune ramp rate and support instead of using low speed compression controls.

Exie Suspension Upgrades

BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension narrows the suspension’s tuning range to a more rider specific setup. This makes every click of adjustment more impactful for the end user.

Chat with our sales team about the advantages of a personalized suspension tune on the Exie for both race and pleasure riding. You’ll be stoked you did!

Key Ibis Exie Kit Differences

The Exis is available in a 2 Shimano builds, Deore and SLX as well as 1 SRAM build with the GX complete.

All three of these are popular options for the Ibis Exie.

Shimano Kits

SLX components tend to be lighter and with a longer service life than the Deore counterparts. Both Shimano kits are popular, however if you’re really looking for that crisp shifting Shimano is known for you may gravitate to the SLX  build.

The SLX also has a Bike Yoke Revive dropper post compared to a KS Rage-i spec on the Deore bike.

That essentially sums up the differences between the Deore and SLX spec.

Riders on the edge of a budget often pick the Deore bike with intention to upgrade some of the drivetrain as it wears.

An upgrade that’s growing in popularity on the SLX bike is installing a wireless SRAM GX AXS derailleur and shift pod. This isn’t for every rider – but if you think you might be “that guy” (or gal) give our team a ring.

More on this on the Common Upgrades tab.

SRAM GX

The Exie GX build is probably the most popular option of the three factory builds.

SRAM’s 12sp Eagle has an incredible service life. While it tends to shift a little rougher than the ultra crisp Shimano it isn’t as susceptible to small cable adjustments. The SRAM Eagle drivetrain is an option for those who are a little harder on their equipment and want it to simply work before the next ride.

The SRAM GX AXS derailleur is a great option for this build.

Common Ibis Exie Part Swaps and Upgrades

Ibis Exie Upgrades and Swaps

When you’re shopping for a new mountain bike it’s common to have a wish list of bits outside the stock build.

Some of these might be things you intend to upgrade as parts wear, but others are so important to a bike’s personality that BikeCo suggests getting it right, right out of the box.

Let’s look at some common upgrades and swaps to the Deore, GX and SLX Exie bikes.

Common Exie Upgrades

The most popular upgrades to the Ibis Exie are cockpit, brakes and suspension tuning.

Suspension

Looking for that next level of performance? Ask about BikeCo Pro Tunes. We take FOX’s unbeatable performance and narrow the window based on rider specifics. These include size, ground speed, terrain, aspirations, etc, etc. Wondering how a Pro Tune fork and shock will improve your particular riding? Chat with our team today and we’ll help identify areas that our Pro Tune service will improve.

Rider Contact Points

Riders typically have a go-to grip and pedal preference.

We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your Exie’s Navy or Bone colorway.

Tires

Another preference riders develop is “must-have” tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

Exie riders aren’t all XC racers. Some may prefer a more robust tire setup for bigger trail terrain. Others might enjoy heavier sidewalls for improved damping. A lot of personality is found in your bikes tires. Let’s get you on the right tires right out of the box.

Maybe you want for rim protection? We have that covered too. Riders with carbon rims on their Exie pleasure builds may look at a CushCore XC for the rear wheel in particular.

Cockpit

A common swap or upgrade to Ibis Factory Spec bikes are the handlebars and stem. Many riders swap to a 35mm diameter combo over the stock 31.8mm options.

Getting the fit correct is important to your Exie’s performance. Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. Looking for suggestions? We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.

Chat with our team about hand positioning, carbon versus aluminum as well as advantages of the right handlebar rise on your new rig.

Brakes

This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.

Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.

TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.

Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.

The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.

Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.

Ibis Exie Suspension Details

Ibis’ Exie is spec’d with FOX Performance fork and rear shock.

The fork is a Float 34 Performance, Step-Cast model with a GRIP damper. Fork travel for the Exie is 120mm. Tuning is done with PSI, volume spacers, rebound and a three position low speed compression control.

For a rear shock the Exie SLX is spec’d with the FOX Performance Float DPS. The shock is 190x45mm. Performance DPS shocks are tuned via PSI, volume spacers and rebound. Additionally the DPS has a “climb switch” that increases low speed compression.

Exie Suspension Upgrade

A popular upgrade to the Exie suspension is our proprietary Pro Tune service.

With less travel on an XC bike its’ even more crucial to have the suspension’s performance setup as dialed in as possible.

BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension

Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our Pro Tune Suspension services.

FOX has the best suspension on the market – but why not make it even better? At BikeCo our suspension team will narrow the performance band of the stock suspension based on your size, riding style, ground speed, aspirations and terrain.

The abridged version? FOX is build for every rider size at every riding speed. You’re not every rider! Chat with our team about how BikeCo Pro Tune suspension will take your riding to the next level. Because Every Click Counts.

Ibis Exie Geometry

The Exie is offered in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. Riders from 5’0″ to 6’5″ options on the Exie.

Like other bikes Ibis shows their height crossover to be about an inch per size. For instance the Medium lists 5′ 3″ to 5′ 8″ riders while the Large typically fits 5′ 7″ to 6’1″ riders.

This is a good starting point, but isn’t the be all and end all to sizing your Exie.

Ibis bikes like the Exie are sized based rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will determine the better size based typically on inseam, flexibility and riding style.

Those with longer legs tend to upsize to improve riding position. This will increase the wheelbase and produce a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.

Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel will tend to downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.

If this is your first real XC type machine remember that Reach and Stack should be viewed together. The taller stack on an XC bike results in a “shorter” reach measurement but often has a comparable cockpit fit to a longer reach and lower stack Enduro style geometry.

Wondering which bike provides you the best fit? Our expert team is here to help you define how your size, riding style, terrain and aspirations will effect your ideal sizing.
