Let’s dive into the Ripmo GX, SLX, XT, GX Transmission and XX Transmission builds from Ibis.

Ibis Top Tier Carbon & FOX Factory Suspension

Across the entire Ripmo V2S build lineup Ibis features their best carbon fiber and Factory suspension.

One of the things that sets Ibis apart from other brands is their singular use of a top tier carbon fiber across their entire carbon lineup. This carbon is vibrant and proven in the harshest riding conditions on the EWS circuit. Top tier carbon will retain a more vibrant feel longer into its service life.

The FOX Factory suspension is more than the slippery Kashima coat – Factory Suspension also features the top of the line dampers for the widest range of adjustment.

Ibis Ripmo Kit Differences

The Ripmo is offered in two Shimano kit as well as three SRAM specs.

Shimano SLX and XT Kits

The SLX will have similar performance to the XT although XT components are lighter. The remainder of the builds is similar, however the XT features an upgraded cockpit spec.

Ripmo XT builds feature the HiFi 800mm carbon bar and 31.8mm diameter Industy Nine A318 stem. The SLX option is spec’d with an aluminum bar and Ibis 31.8mm diameter stem.

SRAM GX, GX Transmission and XX Transmission

Ibis produces a great value with the Ripmo GX kits. A very rideable cost-conscious option this is a bike you can order and enjoy without “needing” any upgrades. This is notable particularly with the top tier FOX Factory suspension and highest quality carbon fiber frame. Many manufacturers will cut corners on these two key items on entry level bikes. Ibis knows that you want your GX Ripmo to be as much a Ripmo as any of them so spec’s the best in these critical areas.

Wireless shifting options are available in both the GX AXS Transmission as well as the XX AXS Transmission kits.

Both AXS Transmission spec’s take advantage of the new T-Type drivetrain. These are the strongest and longest lasting on the market. Your Transmission build will require less replacement over the life of your Ripmo!

SRAM Transmission also sets a new bar for auto setup and tuning options. Chat with our team about more advantages of the Transmission spec.

Differences between the GX Transmission and XX Transmission Builds

Riders will find the XX Transmission bits are slightly lighter and at times made of more exotic materials. The two main spec difference in the kits are wheels and seatposts.

The GX Transmission offers riders Ibis Aluminum Blackbird Send rims laced to Ibis hubs. (Although many riders take advantage of factory option upgrading to the Ibis Carbon wheelset with i9 hubs) GX Transmission builds also feature the Bike Yoke Revive Seatpost.

XX Transmission builds are spec’d with the Ibis Carbon rims laced to i9 Hydra hubs. Also the XX Transmission build specs the wireless SRAM Reverb AXS Seatpost.

Common Ibis Ripmo Upgrades and Part Swaps.

Ibis Ripmo Upgrades and Swaps

At BikeCo we love offering riders the ability to fine tune or dial in that perfect spec. Whether you’re looking for some minor swaps or want to dial in a full custom Ibis Ripmo we are your resource.

Ibis produces great kits “out of the box”. There really aren’t any “no-go” parts spec’d on the GX, SLX, XT, GX Transmission or XX Transmission Ripmo bikes. That said, it’s common for riders to develop preferences. We can take care of getting you that perfect part in the right color to personalize the Ripmo’s performance or look.

Common Ripmo Upgrades

Let’s go through areas that we commonly see riders update a bike purchase. Some of these are personal preference, others are budget or performance choices. Questions? Chat, email or call our expert sales staff and we will help you buy the perfect Ibis Ripmo.

Enduro, Bigger Enduro or Even Trail!

The Ripmo has a wide range of personality – even wider if you shift the suspension spec. Some riders will prefer the bigger capacity and slacker headtube angle of a 170mm fork option. That’s great. But what if you’re on the opposite side? Maybe you’re looking for a bike a bit bigger than the Ripley – a Ripmo with a trail personality? That’s a solid option since the Ripmo pedals so well. Riders looking for that trail feel from their Ripmo tend to gravitate to the FOX 36 fork, especially with the release of the new FOX 36 GRIP X option. Pair that with a FOX Float X rear shock on the Ripmo and you have a bike with higher travel and poppier suspension. Perfect for a lot of trail riding! Chat with our team about how to get your new bike dialed for your riding specifics today.

Rider Contact Points

Do you have a preferred grip and pedal go-to?

We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your EnduroCell or Bruce Banner Ripmo as well.

Similarly many riders purchasing a new bike find it a good time to refresh their pedals. We have the best clipless and flat options for a wide range of riding styles.

Tires

Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

Looking for rim protection? We have that covered too.

Cockpit

Bars and stems are a very common swap or upgrade to the Ibis Factory Spec. Often a 35mm diameter combination is preferred to the stock 31.8mm options.

Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. Looking for suggestions? We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.

Chat with our team about hand positioning and the advantages of getting the right handlebar rise on your new rig.

Brakes

This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.

Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.

TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.

Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.

The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.

Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.

Custom Wheels

Handbuilt or custom wheels are another popular upgrade no matter what brand you’re shopping. Custom wheels allow riders to spec a rim, spoke and hub combination as well as build specifics for the ultimate performance.

Custom wheels for Ibis builds usually feature slightly narrower rim options. This will decrease the volume slightly as well as shifting the tire’s shape to provide more grip in high lean cornering. We see many riders work with NOX carbon or WTB, Factor and RideFast alloy options.

Riders also will find traction from using the right spokes and build techniques. Our team will help you define this at time of purchase to ensure you maximize performance and longevity.

Popular hubs from Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor are spec’d on Ibis Ripmo builds. All of these hubs are available in a range of colors to highlight your build.

Wireless Shifting

While the XX AXS and GX AXS kit feature the new SRAM Transmission the GX and even the SLX and XT are popular options for the standard AXS upgrade. Equally popular are the GX or X01 AXS kits for this purpose.

Chat with our team about mating the GX AXS with Shimano Drivetrains.

Pro Tune Suspension

Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our proprietary Pro Tune Suspension. Our team will custom tune your FOX fork and rear shock and narrow the performance from the FOX Factory range to a more precise setup designed for your riding style, aggression, ground speed, size and terrain.

This is one of the biggest upgrades to any bike – having the suspension dialed in as well as having a resource like BikeCo to help you fine tune the bike at time of delivery and as your riding speeds increase!

Ripmo Suspension Details

The FOX Factory Suspension is spec’d on all of the Ibis Ripmo builds.

FOX Factory forks and shocks not only feature the premium Kashima Coat but more importantly they provide riders with the more sophisticated dampers.

Both the FOX 38 GRIP2 fork as well as the FOX Factory X2 feature high and low speed compression as well as high and low speed rebound settings.

Ripmo Suspension Upgrade

The two upgrades we frequently see on the Ibis Ripmo Complete are BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension service as well as updating to a 170mm air shaft.

Increasing the travel gives the bike some geo changes popular when really attacking the trail. These include a slightly slacker headtube angle, increased trail measurement, and taller bottom bracket height.

Ibis Ripmo Geometry

With frames in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large the Ripmo has a size for nearly every MTB rider. The provided options for riders from 5′ to 6′ 5″.

Use the tabs below for more info on the Ripmo Geo, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the Ripmo measures up against other Enduro MTB bikes on the Comparison tab.

Like other Ibis bikes the Ripmo is sized based rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will determine the better size based typically on inseam, flexibility and riding style.

Those with longer legs tend to upsize to improve riding position. This will increase the wheelbase and produce a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.

Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel will tend to downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.

Ripmo riders will notice the Medium and Large have a smaller difference between wheelbase, reach and standover compared to the S to M or L to XL sizing.

Riders looking for slightly more relaxed headtube, increased trail measurement and a small boost to bottom bracket height should ask about a 170mm fork on the Ibis Ripmo!

If you have sizing questions on the Ripmo work with our sales team. They will help you better understand how size, riding style, terrain and riding aspirations will effect your choice.
