The 29″ Yeti SB140 is class leader in arguably the widest range of MTB on the market. From all day adventure trail days but ready for your burly enduro shreds the SB140 is up to the challenge.

Yeti offers the SB140 T3 in both the standard 150mm FIT4 fork with FOX DPS rear shock as well as the SB140 Lunch Ride featuring a 160mm GRIP2 fork and Float X rear shock.

The taller fork is responsible for the SB140 Lunch Ride’s slacker headtube angle, slightly taller bottom bracket and slightly longer wheelbase. All of which add to the bike’s capacity in larger terrain.

SB140 vs SB140 Lunch Ride

First you’ll want to narrow down which Yeti SB140 is right for you. So here are some basic differences between the bikes.

Fork Travel

The Lunch Ride is spec’d with a 160mm fork compared to the standard SB140’s 150mm fork. This produces a personality difference through both the 6% longer travel as well as the geometry shifts. FOX forks can have air shafts changed so you can start with either 150 or 160 and swap down the line if your preference changes.

Geo Differences

The Lunch Ride has a 65 degree headtube angle, 77 degree effective seat tube and an estimated 342mm bottom bracket height.
A Standard SB140 is slightly steeper with a 65.4 degree headtube angle, 77.5 degree seattube angle and 3mm lower bottom bracket at 339mm.

Rear Shock

Since geo shifts are based on the fork and the fork travel can be relatively easily swapped the rear shock is really where the heart of the difference is on these bikes.

The standard SB140 is spec’d with the FOX DPS single canister rear shock. This shock is very popular with really light riders as its tuning range is more forgiving particularly on small bump compliance for smaller riders. Riders looking for the lightest, “poppiest” build will look at the DPS (although, these riders should also consider the SB120 at length as well).

On the SB140 Lunch Ride riders find the FOX Float X piggyback shock. This is a more robust shock with better resistance to heat saturation and more tuning options for support in burly terrain. Few riders would notice the extra weight of this shock making the Lunch Ride even with a 150mm fork a popular option.

Yeti SB140 & SB140 Lunch Ride T3 X0 Transmission

With the release of the SRAM T-Type Transmission drivetrains riders have access to the strongest and longest lasting products to the market. X0 Transmission kits are designed for the harder hitting enduro bikes and are the most popular of the T-Type kits for this reason.

Lunch Ride T3 X0 Transmission Suspension

The SB140 Lunch Ride TURQ series features the top tier FOX Factory 36 GRIP2 fork at 160mm travel as well as the Factory Float X rear shock.

FOX Factory suspension provides riders the ultimate damping controls such as the high and low speed rebound as well as high and low speed compression found on the GRIP2 forks.

T3 X0 Transmission Suspension

On the standard SB140 T3 X0 Transmission builds riders find the FOX Factory 36 FIT4 fork at 150mm as well as the FOX Factory DPS rear shock.

The FIT4 offers low speed rebound and compression as well as a 3 position compression switch (climb switch). Similarly on the FOX Factory DPS riders find low speed rebound as well as 3 clicks of low speed compression in the “open” setting of the 3 position switch. (Open – Medium – Firm).

All of the FOX offerings have adjustable PSI and Volume Spacing options to fine tune setup and progression.

T3 X0 Transmission Drivetrain

THE most popular wireless drivetrain since it’s launch. SRAM’s T3 X0 Transmission balances weight, performance and reliability. This is the drivetrain aggressive trail and enduro riders are looking for. Transmission drivetrains are the strongest and longest lasting on the market.

Drivetrain Upgrades:

Maybe, maybe a different color XX Flattop chain for some color flare? Nothing really jumps out here for upgrades.

T3 X0 Transmission Wheels and Tires

The Yeti SB140 Lunch Ride T3 bike is spec’d with RaceFace rims featuring a 30mm internal rim width with DT Swiss 350 hubs.

That’s no slouch as far as a wheelset – but, if you’re shopping at this level you’ll probably at least investigate some handbuilt options to compliment your riding and bike build!

Wheel Upgrades:

Riders shopping this level of bike often look at adding a bit to the budget to take it to the next level. Many riders go for Chris King, Industry Nine or Onyx hubs laced to either carbon or aluminum rims.

The most popular carbon rims are the Enduro layup of the Farlow or Kitsuma.

Tire Swaps / Upgrades:

Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

Both the SB140 and SB140 Lunch Ride are spec’d with a Maxxis Minion DHF EXO front tire.

It’s not unusual to see this swapped an EXO Plus, or even a Double Down for the SB140 Lunch Ride. Other riders will prefer a more aggressive front tire like the Maxxis Assegai also in an EXO Plus or Double Down.

Yeti’s SB140 builds feature a Maxxis Aggressor EXO rear tire. Like the front tire we often see this swapped to a more robust sidewall to help with small bump compliance. Some riders may swap to the Minion DHF or Minion DHR II for a bit more traction than the Aggressor tread pattern.

On the Yeti SB140 Lunch Ride a Minion DHR II EXO tire is spec’d. As mentioned both EXO Plus and Double Down are common swaps here. Other riders may prefer a faster rolling tire and move to an Aggressor tread pattern. Some will go with more grip than the DHR II with an Assegai depending on terrain.

Cockpit Swaps and Upgrades

You’re going to need the right size cockpit to get the most out of your bike. That’s why we setup riders with the right handlebar and stem.

It’s important to get your hands into the right position. So you’re going to need the correct rise and width on your handlebar. Handlebar width is an extremely important factor as well. Trimming bars will decrease the leverage ratio which can make your rider harsher than it needs to be. Starting with a bar closer to the ideal width, or perhaps a less stiff bar to begin with are both common swaps to the stock Yeti cockpit.
