The X0 Transmission kit balances weight, performance as well as strength. Many riders building “no-holds-barred” bikes will choose the X0 over the XX Transmission for its more rugged capacity.

T3 X0 Transmission Drivetrain

SRAM’s T-Type Transmission products are designed as the strongest and longest lasting components on the market. This is an especially important factor with an eMTB build.

The added torque of the motor as well as the increased terrain that eMTB riders find themselves climbing can be had on your drivetrains wear components. Why not start out with the strongest and longest lasting out there and stretch your budget a bit?

Drivetrain Upgrades:

Frankly, we don’t see riders upgrade or swap parts on the T-Type drivetrains – there’s really nothing better out there. Maybe there’s a different Flattop chain color you prefer? But that’s about it so far!

T3 X0 Transmission Wheels and Tires

Spec’d with a solid set of DT Swiss HX1700 wheels with 30mm internal rim width as well as Maxxis Assegai EXO Plus front tire and Minion DHR II Double Down rear tire the 160E T3 X0 build features some nice kit here.

That said – Wheels and tires are a really common area on the 160E for swaps and upgrades.

Wheel Upgrades:

Riders shopping this level of bike often look at adding a bit to the budget to take it to the next level. Many riders go for Chris King, Industry Nine or Onyx hubs laced to either carbon or aluminum rims.

The most popular carbon rims are the Enduro layup of the Farlow or Kitsuma.

Wheels are an important aspect to your bike’s performance. If you’re shopping custom wheels chat with our team about how the rim choice, spoke spec and build details can help you improve your small bump compliance across a wide range of terrain.

Tire Swaps / Upgrades:

Along with brakes this is the most common upgrade or swap that we see. The right tires will improve every ride – so let’s get you started with the best at delivery!

The most common tire upgrades on the Yeti 160E are to improve the small bump capacity through sidewall technology as well as maximize overall grip.

For the front wheel it’s common to see riders upgrade to the Maxxis Assegai Double Down. This provides a bit more protection while increasing the damping ability of the tire allowing a more progressive suspension setup without compromising grip.

On the rear tire it’s common to see riders swap to the Assegai as well. The Assegai has a bit more bite than the Minion DHR II built into the tread pattern, and with a motor assist why not take advantage of that!

Rim Protection:

Another common upgrade to eMTB builds is to add rim protection to the bike. Whether you’re looking for just a single wheel, or both wheels with CushCore Pro or to mix and match with the CushCore XC BikeCo has you covered.

T3 X0 Transmission Cockpit and Brakes

Like tires nearly every bike sees swaps and upgrades on cockpit and brakes. So let’s jump right into it.

Cockpit Swaps and Upgrades

You’re going to need the right size cockpit to get the most out of your bike. That’s why we setup riders with the right handlebar and stem.

It’s important to get your hands into the right position. So you’re going to need the correct rise and width on your handlebar. Handlebar width is an extremely important factor as well. Trimming bars will decrease the leverage ratio which can make your rider harsher than it needs to be. Starting with a bar closer to the ideal width, or perhaps a less stiff bar to begin with are both common swaps to the stock Yeti cockpit.

Stem length is an important factor as well. Chat with our team about your height, wingspan and flexibility so we can help you dial in your setup.

Brakes are an important factor in your bike’s overall personality.

Popular Brake Swaps & Upgrades

BikeCo offers the best brakes from Shimano, TRP, Hope and Magura.

Riders looking for great power with snappy performance gravitate to Shimano SLX, XT and XTR brakes.

TRP offers even a little more power with slightly improved modulation compared to Shimano.

With the Tech 4 Hope has increased their total power in-line with Shimano and Magura without compromising their amazing modulation.

Magura continues to be the most popular aftermarket brake, especially installed on new builds. We will credit you for any part swaps and with the variety of Magura price points most riders find the MT5 and MT7 brakes provide unbeatable value. Magura brakes offer great total power and top tier modulation without feeling soft. Magura offers a variety of brake levers to help riders fine tune their performance.

Popular Headset Upgrades

Many Yeti riders will upgrade to the Cane Creek 110 or Chris King options. With basic maintenance the upgraded Cane Creek 110 or Chris King headset will last the lifetime of the frame.

Yeti 160E Geometry

The eMTB Yeti 160E is available in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. The 160E has a size for nearly every rider.

Use the tabs below for more info on the 160E Geo, compare sizes with the Geo Chart as well as see how the 160E measures up against other Enduro eMTB bikes on the Comparison tab.

Like other Yeti bikes the 160E is sized from rider height as well as leg and arm length. Riders who find their height in the cross-over of sizes will determine the better size based typically on inseam, flexibility and riding style.

Those with longer legs tend to upsize to improve riding position. This will increase the wheelbase and produce a bike with a bit more overall speed capacity. Going to a larger size will produce a ride that isn’t quite as snappy as a smaller option would be.

Riders with longer torsos or looking for a more “poppy” trail feel will tend to downsize. Although, with modern MTB frames designed to accommodate increased dropper post lengths riders who prefer the added wheelbase may upsize – so long as the reach doesn’t compromise stem size availability or put a rider “too far” over the front wheel.

Use the tabs to compare 160E sizes as well as other eMTB bikes.

C1 Suspension

The 160E C1 build is spec’d with FOX Performance suspension fork and rear shock.

The 38 Performance Fork features the GRIP damper while the rear shock is a Performance Float X.

Lighter riders will find the Float X provides a range of tuning capacity. Heavier riders may want to investigate going to the Factory Float X2 for a more robust setup range.

A common upgrade on the C1 Performance fork is to swap the GRIP damper to the GRIP2 creating a Performance Elite model.

Suspension Upgrades:

It’s hard to beat the FOX Factory components. They make the best forks and shocks that work for a huge range of riders. But, what if we could take that performance and fine tune each control for your specifics?

With BikeCo’s Pro Tune Suspension Service you can. In short we’ll take you details including size, riding style, aggression, ground speeds, location and aspirations and shift the FOX damper’s performance to those specifics.

Every Click Counts – and with the BikeCo Pro Tune each click on your suspension will have a more finite tune capacity for you.

C1 Drivetrain

Yeti spec’s the 160E with the Shimano SLX drivetrain. The SLX is a popular Shimano kit balancing performance and budget.

Drivetrain Upgrades:

Occasionally we’ll see riders take the Shimano kit and add a SRAM GX AXS wireless derailleur and shifter. This isn’t an update for everyone – if you’re thinking about it give our team call! Other upgrades to the C1 bike are XT derailleur or cassette updates to the build.

C1 Wheels and Tires

Spec’d with a solid set of DT Swiss H1900 wheels with 30mm internal rim width as well as Maxxis Assegai EXO Plus front tire and Minion DHR II Double Down rear tire the 160E C1 build features some nice kit here.

C1 Cockpit and Brakes

Like tires, almost every bike sees swaps and upgrades on cockpit as well as brakes.

Compare Yeti 160E Build Kits

Let’s get into the 160E kits. Below we will compare the Yeti T3 X0 Transmission, T2 and C1 builds.

Shared Highlights of all 160E Kits:

TURQ Carbon Frames

Typically Yeti specs TURQ Carbon frames for the T series builds and Carbon series for the C spec.

However, with the eMTB 160E Yeti specs their top tier TURQ Carbon on all three bikes.

TURQ Carbon layups are slightly lighter than their Carbon counterparts, but most notably the TURQ Carbon frames are a bit more vibrant and stay that way longer into their service lives.

160E Drive Unit and Battery

All Yeti 160E builds feature the Shimano EP800 drive unit, EM800 Display as well as the Shimano 630Wh battery.

Cockpit

Each kit features a Yeti Carbon 35x800mm bar, Burgtec Enduro 50mm stem as well as ODI Elite Pro grips.

Cockpit is an area of frequent swaps and upgrades. Check out the Common Upgrades tab below to learn more about how the right handlebar, stem and grips will improve your riding.

Tires

Spec’d with the Maxxis Assegai EXO Plus front tire and a Minion DHR II Double Down the 160E has a popular setup for a wide range of riders. However, like cockpit, saddle and brakes there is A LOT of personality attached to your bike’s tires.

Read on the Swaps and Upgrades for more insight on popular tire setups we spec for Enduro eMTB bikes like the class leading 160E.

Yeti 160E Kit Differences

The 160E is offered in three kits (four if you act quickly and take advantage of the 2023 C1 build…). The C1 builds are spec’d with Shimano and the T series bikes feature SRAM drivetrains. There are some other important spec changes between these builds as pointed out below.

FOX Factory or Performance Suspension

Yeti’s 160E T3 X0 Transmission and T2 bikes feature a FOX Factory 38 GRIP2 fork and FOX Factory X2 shock spec. The C1 builds are spec’d with a FOX Performance GRIP fork as well as a FOX Performance Float X shock.

With FOX Factory suspension riders have the ultimate suspension damper design at their fingertips. On both the GRIP2 as well as the Factory X2 shock riders have easy adjustments for high and low speed rebound as well as high and low speed compression. These improved controls are great for heavier eMTB riding.

T3 X0 Transmission versus T2 Kit

The Yeti T3 X0 Transmission, like it’s name implies, features the latest wireless SRAM Transmission drivetrain. The T2 build is spec’d with cable driven SRAM Eagle bits.

On the C1 build riders find Shimano SLX drivetrain.

Common Yeti 160E Upgrades and part swaps

Yeti 160E Upgrades and Swaps

BikeCo loves offering riders the ability to fine tune or dial in that perfect bike spec. Whether you’re looking for some minor swaps or want to dial in a full custom Yeti 160E you’ve found the resource.

Yeti spec’s great kit options for the 160E. Few components on the 160E builds would be considered “no-go”, all and all there is a lot of value for your dollar in the Yeti build. But, it’s common for riders to develop preferences. Whether it’s a performance swap or upgrade or getting you that perfect part in the right color to personalize the 160E’s performance or look we have you covered.

Common 160E Upgrades

These are areas we commonly see riders update a bike purchase. Some are personal preference, others are budget or performance choices. Questions? Chat, email or call our expert sales staff and we will help you buy the perfect Yeti 160E.

Rider Contact Points

Do you have a preferred grip and pedal go-to?

We can provide a range of grips with variable patterns, technology and shape to improve your riding. There might even be a grip in a color to set off your Turquoise, Rhino or Black 160E as well.

A lot of riders purchasing a new bike find it a good time to refresh their pedals. We have the best clipless and flat options for a wide range of riding styles at unbeatable prices.

Tires

Like contact points its not unusual for riders to have a “must-have” go to tire spec. This is one of the most common swaps on builds from any manufacturer. With notable performance differences between tread pattern, compound and sidewall lets make sure we get you on the perfect tire setup.

The 160E is spec’d with an Assegai EXO Plus front tire and a Minion DHR II Double Down Rear.

It’s not unusual to see riders upgrade to a Double Down front tire. This adds some tire protection but more notably increases the small bump compliance damping through the tire allowing for a more progressive suspension setup to resist the heavier eMTB weight shifts while riding.

On the rear tire we often see riders take advantage of the eMTB drive system and swap to a more aggressive tread pattern like the Assegai.

Questions on what tires are right for your riding style and locale? No problem – chat with our team about swapping to tires perfect for you on your new eMTB.

Maybe you’re also thinking about rim protection? We have that covered too. We often see riders use combinations of CushCore PRO and CushCore XC or even a single rim protection strip (usually on the rear tire). Questions? Let us know!

Cockpit

Along with Brakes, Cockpit is the most common place we see part swaps and upgrades. Since fit is so important to your bike it’s not surprising that you’ll want to work with a resource that has more than 1 option!

On eMTB bikes like the 160E its common to see riders looking for handlebar designs that maximize small bump compliance. Like we mentioned with the Double Down front tire, the heavier eMTB bikes often utilize more progressive suspension setups for ultimate performance. This means finding small bump compliance elsewhere is important on you 160E build.

The most common handlebar for eMTB purchases is the OneUp carbon e-bar. Designed with a unique shape to provide maximum stiffness in a fore/aft load but while offering subtle give in vertical loads.

Another common handlebar spec is the carbon option from TAG Metals which has an ovalized internal design for similar performance benefits.

Handlebar rise and overall stiffness also improve the personalization and performance of your bike. As you trim your bars they will get stiffer due to the decreased lever arm – so if you’ve got narrower shoulders you’ll likely want to start with a narrower bar rather than cutting tons off. Similarly getting the right bar rise will help your setup. Ideally you want your hands in a power position. Too low and the bike will try to pull “under” and out in steep chutes. Too tall and you’ll lose front end grip. While some of this is adapted with headset spacers the preference for performance and looks is generally to have 15-30mm of spacers and get the rest of the rise from the handlebar.

Looking for suggestions? Chat with our team about hand positioning and the advantages of getting the right handlebar rise on your new rig. We have the best in the market from OneUp, Tag, Renthal and Raceface.

Brakes

This is one of the most common swaps or upgrades on any bike. Brakes that compliment your riding style and preference make a huge difference on trail. We offer class leading options in a variety of price points from Hope, Magura, Shimano and TRP.

Most riders will update brakes on the Yeti 160E.

Shimano brakes are very popular and are spec’d on several of the build options. Shimano brakes have good overall power with quick lever throw. This produces a brake with a strong feel.

TRP brakes are similar to the Shimano lineup. The TRP brakes provide a touch more overall power and extra modulation compared to Shimano offerings.

Riders who prefer a bit more modulation or “feel” to their brakes gravitate towards Hope and Magura.

The latest Hope Tech 4 updates have improved their power. This puts the Hope Tech 4 in the Shimano and Magura range for overall power while retaining the excellent modulation Hope has been known for.

Magura brakes are the most frequent swap or upgrade across all Ibis builds. Riders who appreciate modulation and power will find Magura excellent in both aspects. Magura offers models with across a wide price range allowing budget friendly swaps or upgrades. Riders looking for the most adjustability or tuning for their brakes will shop the MT7 with HC3 levers.

Handbuilt or custom wheels are another popular upgrade no matter what brand you’re shopping. Custom wheels allow riders to spec a rim, spoke and hub combination as well as build specifics for the ultimate performance.

Custom wheels for Ibis builds usually feature slightly narrower rim options. This will decrease the volume slightly as well as shifting the tire’s shape to provide more grip in high lean cornering. We see many riders work with NOX carbon or WTB, Factor and RideFast alloy options.

Riders also will find traction from using the right spokes and build techniques. Our team will help you define this at time of purchase to ensure you maximize performance and longevity.

Popular hubs from Chris King, Industry Nine, Onyx and Factor are spec’d on Yeti 160E builds. All of these hubs are available in a range of colors to highlight your build.

Wireless Shifting

Yeti offers a range of wireless shifting with the new SRAM Transmission series.

On the 160E T3 X0 Transmission riders find the strongest and longest lasting wireless shifting option on the market. Few riders would upgrade a T2 bike to wireless as it basically just becomes the T3 X0 Transmission bike.

However, on the Shimano C1 kits we do see wireless upgrades. Some riders swap out to the new SRAM GX Transmission kits, or even GX AXS upgrades. While not for everyone, you might be intrigued by mating the GX AXS with Shimano Drivetrains. Chat with our team about your various options.

Pro Tune Suspension

Take your bike’s performance to the next level with our proprietary Pro Tune Suspension. Our team will custom tune your FOX fork and rear shock and narrow the performance from the FOX Factory range to a more precise setup designed for your riding style, aggression, ground speed, size and terrain.

This is one of the biggest upgrades to any bike – having the suspension dialed in as well as having a resource like BikeCo to help you fine tune the bike at time of delivery and as your riding speeds increase!

BikeCo Pro Tune Suspension – because Every Click Counts.

Dialing in the perfect 160E Build

Still have questions? If you’re here to compare Yeti 160E kits we’d expect you to have questions! Don’t be shy, our team is here to help you define what you need to take your bike build from “this is good” to “man, this is DIALED.”

Yeti 160E Geometry

Available in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large the 160E has a size for nearly every rider.
